COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Financial management is both largely influenced by the economic and institutional
environment and governed by factors and considerations grounded on a theoretical base. The
corporate finance manager has to make investments, financing and dividends decisions whose
consequence can be evaluated over time. Financial strategies are crafted and decisions made in
pursuit of some overall objectives of the firm. Given the complexity of the risk-return tradeoffs
of many business decisions, the simple criterion of maximization of profits has been supplanted
by a more market-based criterion of the maximization of market value of shareholders wealth.
