La Venaria Reale is a grand estate located outside of Turin, Italy that was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The document describes the history of the estate from its origins in the 17th century as a residence for the Duke of Savoy. It fell into disrepair but underwent a massive 15-year restoration project in the late 1990s. It has since reopened to the public as an exhibition and event center, attracting over 5 million visitors. History
The origins of La Venaria Reale date back
to the mid-17th century, when Duke Carlo
Emanuele II of Savoy decided to build a new
residence to be used by his Court for “leisure
and hunting.”

When Napoleon conquest the Palace, the
period of decadence starts.
First it was transformed in a military building
and for all the XIX and the first part of XX’s
century the army occupied the Palace.
Decorations, furniture, paintings and statues
were stolen and lost.

army completely abandoned the Palace.
Everything that remains was plundered by
citizens.

Ever Undertaken in Europe for the Recovery
