Reported Speech  What is it about?
What is "reported speech" useful for?   • It is useful to say, tell, or report something that somebody else said.  • It is very important to quote, somebody else's thoughts or opinions.
Some important rules before reporting.   • Take into account time (Tomorrow, yestertady, today, now)  • Take into account places (there, here,this, that)  • Say = used when there is no reference  • Tell = used when there is a reference  • Tenses
Tenses
(No header)   • Present tense "goes to" past tense  • Past tense "goes to" present perfect  • Past perfect "goes to" past perfect  • Future tense "goes to" would tense (modal verbs)
Examples
(No header)   • Sara: "I want to eat pizza"  • Sara said that she wanted to eat pizza
(No header)   • Sara: "I ate pizza yesterday"  • Sara said that she has eaten pizza yesterday
(No header)   • Sara: I have eaten lots of pizza  • Sara said that she had eaten lots of pizza
