Verizon is relying heavily on its partnership with Google to strengthen its smartphone presence against rival AT&T, as an iPhone deal with Verizon does not appear imminent. Verizon's share of the US smartphone market grew in the last quarter while AT&T's declined, but AT&T still leads in proportion of customers using smartphones. Verizon executives meet regularly with Google executives to discuss the latest Android software and hardware partnerships. Verizon is heavily promoting Android phones like the HTC Droid Incredible and plans new Motorola Android phones and an Android tablet to counter the iPad.

While there were man morsels worth chewing on at Apple's (NADAQ:AAPL) WWDC event this week, one conspicuous in its asence was an iPhone for Verizon Wireless
(NY:VZ). The nation's largest carrier does not appear at all pertured though; its smartphone relationship with Google continues to grow.
With a Verizon iPhone out for the immediate future, the carrier is anking on its relationship with Google to help strengthen its smartphone presence against rival AT&T
Moilit (NY:T). According to data from comcore, Verizon's share of the U.. smartphone market grew to 24.1 percent at the end of March, while AT&T's fell nearl four
points to 41.9 percent. till, AT&T continues to lead Verizon in the proportion of its customers who are uing smartphones.
According to a report in the Wall treet Journal, Verizon executives meet with their Apple counterparts once a quarter. Nevertheless, Verizon is counting on Google to e a
major partner. According to the Journal, Verizon Wireless CO Lowell McAdam, along with CMO John tratton and enior Vice President John Harroin, often meet with
Google CO ric chmidt and Google's chief Android architect, And Ruin, as well other Google executives. The two teams hash out the latest Android software and tr and
match it with appropriate handsets.
Verizon has een us promoting the HTC Droid Incredile, and McAdam recentl said that due to component shortages the carrier is having troule keeping the phone in
stock. Verizon is now the largest U.. seller of Android phones, according to an analsis  Credit uisse.
And Verizon's support of Android shows no signs of relenting. The carrier reportedl plans to launch two new Motorola (NY:MOT) Android smartphones in Jul, and will
heavil promote the products. Verizon spent $100 million promoting the original Motorola Droid. Verizon also is planning to launch an Android talet later this ear to counter
Apple's iPad.
