2. EDITING &
CAMERA THE CAMERA FOLLOWS BERHANA FOR MOST OF THE
VIDEO, USING A TRACKING SHOT TO FOLLOW HIM ON THE
BIKE, ZOOMING IN AND OUT SWIFTLY. THE SHOTS RARELY
CUT AND THEY GET SHORTER TOWARDS THE END OF THE
VIDEO. I LOVE THE IDEA OF A TRACKING SHOT BEING
USED FOR THE LONGER SCENES, HOWEVER THE
EQUIPMENT SUITED FOR SHOTS LIKE THESE WOULD BE
HARD FOR ME TO FIND EASILY. GUEST WOULD HAVE USED
A DRONE OR A MOUNTED CAR-CAMERA TO TRACK THE
ACTORS, AND POSSIBLY A SMALLER GO-PRO TYPE OF
CAMERA.

AS THE VIDEO FOCUSES MOSTLY ON BERHANA
HIMSELF, AS A MAN BORN IN ATLANTA TO
ETHIOPIAN PARENTS SO IS A REPRESENTATION
OF YOUNG BLACK MALES. LATER IN THE VIDEO
TWO BLACK WOMEN FEATURE, SO THERE IS
ALSO A REPRESENTATION OF BLACK FEMALES.
I THINK THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PAINT
COLOURS IS TO REPRESENT THE IMPORTANCE
OF DIVERSITY, AND THE ACTORS WEARING ALL
WHITE IS AN INTERESTING AND POTENTIALLY
CONTROVERSIAL CONCEPT THAT I LOVE.

YOU COULD DESCRIBE THE VIDEO AS
NON DESCRIPT AS THE
STORYTELLING
• THE VIDEO DOESN’T HAVE A NARRATIVE AS
SUCH, BECAUSE THE MAJORITY OF THE VIDEO
IS BERHANA RIDING A BICYCLE. HOWEVER
THERE IS A DEVELOPMENT IN THE STORYLINE
WHEN HE MEETS THE TWO WOMEN. BECAUSE
OF THE PREDOMINANTLY BLANK EXPRESSIONS,
IT IS HARD TO DERIVE A STORY, HOWEVER,
THERE IS A LOT TO BE SAID ABOUT THE
POTENTIAL MESSAGE IN THE VIDEO. THE USE
OF ONLY AFRICAN AMERICAN ACTORS
5. COLOUR PALLET
THE COLOUR PALLET IN THE VIDEO FOCUSES ON BRIGHT,
COLD COLOURS, WITH PASTEL BACKGROUNDS. THE
CONTRASTING USE OF THE BRIGHT COLOURS BEING
POURED OVER THEIR WHITE CLOTHING.
