A Math-Connected art lesson

2. It´s a Japanese design concept involving the play and placement of
light and dark elements as they are placed next to the other in the
composition of art and imagery.
This use of light and dark translates shape and form into flat shapes
on a two-dimensional surface. Nōtan is traditionally presented in paint,
ink, or cut paper.

3. This year, in 5th. level we were study symmetry.
It´s a mathematic concept very connected with art.
We have learnt what is NOTAN and students were
really interested in create new forms
using black and white shapes.
This activity was a new way to explore maths and art concepts.
Here we will show you our work.
4. First, students
thought and draw a

Then, they made
their notan creations
with white paper and
black card.
