We would like to help our new students be more organised for the start of term by providing them
at enrolment with a subject specific list of things they will need to buy/have ready at the start of
their courses.
It is in the hope that if we can start them off well, it will pay dividends in the long run!!!!!
To help us collate this list, could you please provide us with the following information:
Subject: Photography
Item Required Details
Text Book(s) AS Paul Langford Basic Photography ISBN-10: 0240515927
A2 Susan Sontag On Photography ISBN-10: 0140053972
John Berger Ways of Seeing ISBN-10: 014103579X
Subject Specific
Items (i.e.
calculators)
If necessary
please also
state where
they can be
purchased
from.
Essential:
An A3 journal to present work in. Preferably with black pages- These can be
purchased from us, once you have started the course for £5. White page
journals are available for £3.
An SD card- to use in college cameras (even if you have your own camera, there
will be times when you use a college one- you will need an SD card with you at
all times)
Suggested:
Portable Hard drive or large pen/usb drive (Pen drives will hold less but are a lot
more durable)- The college network only has space for 1GB of storage per
student. On a course like photography, that produces digital imagery this will
quickly run out.
We do have a limited number of DSLRs that we can lend out but having your
own camera that you can fully control the settings on (a DSLR, four thirds or
bridge) will aid you to no end. As we use the Canon EOS systemand have a
good range of lenses that can be lent out, if you are thinking of purchasing a
DSLR, it would make sense for you buy something from the Canon EOS range
that would be compatible with our equipment.
A 35mm film SLR camera will also aid your learning. You can buy a good 35mm
SLR, such as an Olympus OM10, from Ebay for little money.
General (paper) A silver writing pen for writing in your journal (if you have a black-paged
journal), pritt- stick to stick your images into your journal.
Any other….. You may wish to have your own tripod, camera bag, or any other photography
equipment. We encourage students to experiment with film processing and
exposing so if you see cheap, second hand cameras/ filters etc. at car-boot-sales
or junk shops you can always use these in your photography projects.
Thank you!!
