To Whom It May Concern:
It is my pleasure to provide this letter of recommendation for Lucas Cotta. As a Professor and former Chair of the
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Temple University, and someone who has spent significant
time in academia, industry and government, I have had a chance to interact with a wide range of engineers,
including students, over the years. Overall, I believe Lucas to be a skilled, thoughtful, and thoroughly professional
Information Technology expert, which I will briefly elaborate on below.
I met Lucas in Summer 2015 when he joined our lab as a summer intern. He participated in the Brazilian Scientific
Mobility Program, a fully sponsored program from the Brazilian government to study abroad. He helped us develop
a software system as a research assistant in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Temple
University. I was impressed by his initiative and his interest in all aspects of our work. He showed strong analytical
and problem solving skills, and was very interested in entrepreneurial activities.
During the summer, Lucas worked with a team to implement a variety of features for our demonstration and data
annotation tools. He used systems based on hidden Markov models and deep learning. I was impressed by his
diligence and the quality of his work. During this period, he also demonstrated a great interest in starting his own
business, and clearly demonstrated an impressive command of the startup and venture capital industry. He
proceeded to open his own software development company.
I was particularly impressed by the professionalism and technical innovation that Lucas demonstrated on our
project. He tackled every project assigned to him with enthusiasm and competence. He invariably understands
exactly what a project is all about from the beginning, and how to get it done effectively.
In closing, I recommend Lucas Cotta highly for any position in the IT field that involves complexity and creativity,
with high quality requirements. He works well in teams and is an outstanding contributor.
If I may be of further assistant with regard to Lucas, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
