4. WHAT IS FSSAI REGISTRATION?

✓ Every individual or Food Business Operator (FBO) who is by any way related to manufacturing,
transportation, storage or distribution of food products must obtain FSSAI Registration or License.
✓ FSSAI registration is compulsory for all food businesses who are involved in a small food business. The
small food business operator can be any person or entity who fulfils below criteria based on SIZE AND
NATURE:
o Manufactures sells any item of food himself or with the help of any other petty retailer shop;
o Any hawker, itinerant vendor, temporary stall holder; food distributer in any religious or social
gathering events except a caterer;
o food businesses including a small scale or cottage or such other industries relating to food business or
tiny food businesses having an annual turnover of not more than Rs.12 Lakhs
✓ FSSAI has divided food license based on the turnover limits of a company.
✓ Failure of registration for FSSAI License may charge heavy penalties and considered as a legal offense.
✓ Food license is issued for 1 year to 5-year validity based on business requirement

distributors etc.
✓ Annual Turnover of up to INR 12 Lakhs.
✓ Type of Business: Medium Sized Food manufactures, transporter, retailler,

✓ Type of Business: Importers, 100% Export Oriented Units, large manufacturers,
operators in the Central Government agencies, airports, seaports etc.

turnover or self-declaration of the number of vehicles
