Social Media Marketing Strategy and ROI
By Michael Cohn on Jul 13, 201313
In order to achieve anything in business, you need to have a plan,
or strategy, and follow that plan through to the end. No matter
what you are trying to accomplish, you need to have a plan to
guide you.
Working your social media strategy
When you first begin to work your social media marketing
strategy, you must work with a plan so that you effectively get to
your destination. Otherwise, it is like driving a car without having a
goal in mind at the end. Undoubtedly, you may have a social
media marketing plan that is different than that of another person. Each business is unique
and each individual is unique. Therefore, each strategy will be unique.
One of the most appealing things about social media is that you won’t have to spend a lot
of money. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you won’t have to make any investment. The
investment that you will need to make will be in time and effort. If you don’t understand the
importance of creating a social media marketing strategy before you actually start to get
involved with social media channels, there is a very good likelihood that your website will
not be a success. You need to do it the proper way for it to come out the way that it should.
When it comes to using social media for your business, it is very different than using it for
your personal entertainment. Social media channels are very public and what you do and
say through them will reflect on you and your business. You shouldn’t make the mistake of
thinking that nobody will be paying attention to what you have posted. Everyone will pay
attention and they will continue to pay attention. On the other hand, you don’t really have
the option of not using social media for your business. That would be worse than being
more public than you should be. Remember how important it is to pay close attention to
what your analytics are saying. You must constantly be working toward a goal and it is
critical that you keep the end in sight at all times.
Why do you need a strategy?
You may be asking yourself why you really need a social media marketing strategy. As a
business owner, your ultimate goal is to sell your products and/or services and thus achieve
2. greater success for your business. Without selling your offerings, you will never have a
return on investment (ROI). If you work it properly, you will get back what you put in and
hopefully, more. The way that you determine your ROI is by figuring out if you have
achieved your objectives, which include successfully executing your strategy. At the
beginning, you may be at a bit of a loss when it comes to setting up your strategy. It is an
excellent idea, at that point, to think as simplistically as possible. When developing your
strategy, think about people before technology. You should start with what the people’s
desired end is. You should answer the following six questions:
Who do you wish to reach?
What do those people want to achieve?
When should you interact with those people?
Where should you interact with those people?
Why should you engage with those people?
How can you really help them and make a big difference for them?
If you can successfully answer all of those questions, your social media marketing strategy
will fall into place very easily. The strategy is critical to you and your business and certain
steps, as outlined above, must be followed in a specific order.
Conclusion
Your social media marketing strategy must be in place from the very beginning and it must
align perfectly with what you wish to achieve. It is critical that you put the strategy in place
before you do anything else. If you do, provided that it is a sound strategy and one that
truly fits your business’s goals and objectives, you will see everything fall into place after
that and you will meet your objectives and enjoy success at the end of that journey.
Growing your ROI results is critical to your continued success and it has never been more
important than it is today. At the same time, it is important for you to identify those
elements in your social media marketing strategy that aren’t working effectively. Those
should be eliminated and new elements should be put in their place.
