### Solving Multiplication And Division Fraction Equations

1. 1. Solving Multiplication and Division Fraction Equations 12/9/2009
2. 2. Note of Warning…

All multiplication and division equations in this section may be treated as multiplication equations. Simply multiply both sides of the equation by the reciprocal and simplify as needed.

3. 3. 2x = 1/3

Don’t forget…when you’re dividing fractions, you must flip the second fraction and multiply.

Multiply both sides by the reciprocal of 2 (1/2)

1/3 x ½ = 1/6

x=1/6

4. 4. 5x/6 = 4

Multiply both sides by the reciprocal of 5/6 (6/5).

Make 4 a fraction by putting it over 1.

Multiply straight across and simplify! (top x top) 6x4 = 24; (bottom x bottom) 5x1=5 24/5 in simplest form is 4 and 4/5

5. 5. 5/6 = w/4

Multiply both sides by the reciprocal of ¼ (4/1)

Multiply straight across and simplify as needed. (top x top) 5x4=20; (bottom x bottom) 6x1=6 20/6 in simplest form is 3 and 1/3
