This letter discusses establishing a public-private partnership between Alexander & Baldwin, Maui County, and Maui Electric to honor the legacy of Patsy Takemoto Mink, the first woman of color elected to Congress, at the site of the Old Maui High School in Hamakuapoko, Maui. It references memorial speeches about Mink delivered in the House and Senate after her death in 2002 that celebrated her championing of fairness, equality, and justice and speaking for the forgotten, disenfranchised, and poor. The letter proposes honoring Mink's early beginnings in Paia, Maui at her old high school site through this partnership.

REPRESENTATIVE JULIA CARSON of Indiana.
Mr. Speaker, in the greatest book ever written, in the most universally read book of all
times, it is worth recalling in this most special period in the U.S. House of
Representatives an inscription in the book of Ecclesiastes.
It says:
For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: A time to
be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which has been
planted.
Representative Patsy Mink represented her seasons and her purpose under heaven. She
planted great, eternal seeds in her season, and certainly fertilized them well.
REPRESENTATIVE BARBARA LEE of California.
Mr. Speaker, I thank the gentleman for yielding time to me, and for bringing this
resolution honoring our colleague, the gentlewoman from Hawaii, and our dear friend.
First I want to begin by extending my deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Patsy's
family, to John, Wendy, friends, and constituents, and to the entire State of Hawaii. My
thoughts and prayers are with them during this very difficult period.
In the words of our Secretary of Transportation, Norm Mineta:
Patsy Mink spoke for the forgotten, the disenfranchised, the poor, and worked
unceasingly to remind the Nation of its obligations to those whom it sometimes forgets.
Patsy spoke not only for the forgotten, the disenfranchised, the poor, but also to the
conscience of all Americans.
