Guy Fawkes and his friends planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament with 36 barrels of gunpowder underneath King James I's chair in 1605, as not all Englishmen liked the King. Their plot was discovered when the gunpowder was found, and Guy Fawkes and his co-conspirators were arrested and punished for treason for attempting to assassinate the King inside Parliament. Every November 5th, the failed Gunpowder Plot is remembered in England with bonfires, fireworks, and effigies of Guy Fawkes burned on top of bonfires.
