A few things to watch for as an Archdiocesan Pastoral Agency using social media –
- Be careful what you post. Items or images you post on social media may be copyright protected.
- Make sure an employee of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Centers is the one posting and maintaining
the social media profiles.
- The social media profile or account must be under the name of the agency and the Archdiocese
- If you are communicating with minors or have that potential to communicate with minors, make
sure you have at least two adults who have access to the profile name and password on the
account(s).
- Make sure you know your agency’s message and what you want to convey via social media
- Beware the negative comments. Even the Vatican is weary when it comes to Facebook.
Five pieces of advice when it comes to sharing
- Ask other agencies to post your major events and make sure you return the favor. Social media
is about sharing constantly
- Ask fans or followers of your page to share information on their profile pages or Twitter pages
- Post items related to the liturgical year even if it isn’t directly related to your agency. Lenten
opportunities, Feast Days, etc.
- There are some great resources on USCCB that were created to share so when in doubt reach
