The CK Birla Hospitals RBH has initiated a month-long Hand Hygiene Reinforcement Drive in December 2017 called "CLEAN HANDS COUNT" to promote hand washing among healthcare workers. As part of a golden hands campaign, staff who are observed adhering to five key moments of hand hygiene are awarded a Golden Hands badge by doctors or nurses. The staff member with the most badges by the end of the month will be named the RBH Hand Hygiene Hero of 2017. The goal is to strengthen patient safety by reinforcing proper hand hygiene.

COUNTING GOLDEN HANDS AT CK BIRLA HOSPITALS RBH
Hand washing is a simple yet important task done to prevent or control spread of
infections. The infection control team at CK Birla Hospitals RBH has initiated a
Hand Hygiene Reinforcement Drive for the month of December 2017. The theme
of this month long reinforcement drive is CLEAN HANDS COUNT. Week one had
begun with a healthy competition among the healthcare workers to become the
HAND HYGIENE HERO OF RBH. A golden hands campaign is being conducted
hospital wide where a staff is awarded with Golden hands badge if he or she is
observed to be adhering to five moments of hand hygiene. The reinforcement is
done through the peers with the doctors handing over golden hand badges to
nurses, technicians and healthcare assistants and also nurses awarding badges to
the doctors. The healthcare worker staffs in their busy routines often tend to be
lax with hand hygiene and it was thought to strengthen the patient safety climate
by reinforcing the practice of hand hygiene in healthcare workers at the 5 key
moments i.e.
1) Before touching the patient
2) Before clean /aseptic task
3) After body fluid exposure risk
4) After touching the patients
5) After touching patient environment.
At the end of the month the staff with maximum gold hand badges shall be
crowned RBH - Hand Hygiene Hero 2017.There are additional exciting activities
and competitions lined up for the entire month for reinforcing hand hygiene at
RBH.
