1. James Bond Movies Comparison
Movie genre is the term used to categorise different types of movies. For example there are
action movies ,historical movies, sci-fi movies and so on. A movie can have multiple
different genres. The movie that I have chosen is “Skyfall” and “The Spy Who Loved Me” .
Skyfall is a James Bond movie directed by Sam Mendes and produced by Micheal G Wilson
and Barbara Broccoli which features Daniel Craig as James Bond , the story centres Bond
investigating an attack on MI6 ;the attack is part of a plot by former MI6 operative Raoul
Silva as revenge on M for betraying him. The Spy Who Loved Me is also a James Bond movie
but directed by Lewis Gilbert and produced by Albert R Broccoli . It features Roger Moore as
Bond , the story involves a reclusive megalomaniac who plans to destroy the world and
create a new civilisation under the sea in the movie Bond teams up with a Russian agent to
stop him. I am going to compare the two movies in term of similarities .
As both movies I am comparing are James Bond movies , MI6 agent James Bond features as
the protagonist in both Skyfall and The Spy Who Loved Me. In both movies James Bond
portrays several similar traits and characteristics. For example , Bond is portrayed as a heavy
drinker and smoker in both movies. In skyfall Bond was shown drinking when he was
watching the news about the attack on MI6 and his own death. Other than that , the iconic
introduction “Bond , James Bond” catchphrase was used in both movies when he introduces
himself . James Bond is in his mid-to-late thirties in both movies even though one of the
movie is released in 2012 while the other is released in 1977 which is 45 years apart. As for
the antagonist , in skyfall Raoul Silva plays as the antagonist , he is a former MI6 agent that
was betrayed and abandoned by M when he was captured , resulting in a person that knows
MI6 inside out. Raoul plotted to humiliate , discredit and kill M throughout the movie . For
the Spy Who Loved Me the antagonist is Karl Stormberg ,who hates humans and plans to
destroy the world .
James Bond is also featured as a womaniser in movies, in these two movies I chose the
woman with that worked with Bond had a similarity which is an initial motive to kill Bond
but fails to do so because of various reasons. In skyfall the woman that helped Bond was
Severine . Severine first saw Bond assassinate Patrice from the opposite apartment .She
awaits Bond's arrival at the casino to claimthe money that belonged to Patrice. Then Bond
drinks with Severine at the casino bar , Severine revealed that she had been saved from the
Macau sex trade by Silva and now works as his representative. Promising to help her escape
being Silva's captive, Bond asks for her to join forces in allowing him to find the man in the
shadows. Severine then orders her guards to kill Bond as he leaves the casino. Bond escapes

2. the casino then joins and have sex with Severine in the shower on board of the chimera .
Severine dies on dead island being shot by Silva in the head after Bond failed to shoot the
glass of scotch of her head. On the other hand , the main female character in The Spy Who
Loved Me is Anya Amsova (triple x) a Russian agent sent for the same mission as bond. Anya
meets Bond during a show at the Pyramids in Egypt, where her thugs fight with Bond when
she believes he has killed Egyptian contact. However, they become formally introduced to
one another in Cairo when they both arrive at Max Kalba's club .They attempt to outbid one
another for a secret microfilm. When Kalba is killed by Jaws, they travel across Egypt
tracking the microfilm. For most of the film Bond and Anya have the same mission
objectives and try to achieve the same goals often by attempting to outdo one another,
during which they fall in love. While travelling to Sardinia by train she is attacked by Jaws.
Bond hears the sounds of a struggle over the noise of the train and arrives just in time to
save her from being killed. After a brief fight Jaws is despatched out of a window and Bond
returns to Anya, who tends to a cut on his shoulder before they kiss and ultimately spend
the night together. On Sardinia Anya accompanies Bond to meet Karl Stromberg posing as
his wife. Afterwards Anya learns that Bond killed her lover. She then tells Bond that she will
ultimately have revenge once their mission is complete. As the mission reaches its end, she
points her gun at Bond, only to discover that she is too in love with him to kill him.
James Bond movies are famous for the gadget and tools that James Bond uses as they are
cool and futuristic. Bond used Walther PPK/S 9mm short in skyfall .A version of Bonds
signature pistol equipped with a palm-print reader, only enabling the gun to fire when it
detects Bond's palm-print. Bond was also given a radio transmitter by Q that allows MI6 to
track Bond's location when activated. In skyfall ,Bond used Aston Martin DB5 to travel to his
birthplace-skyfall.,its has hidden machine guns that are used during the climactic battle with
Silva. Similarly , Bond also used a Walther PPK in The Spy Who Loved Me but without the
extra feature. In The Spy Who Loved Me Bond used a Seiko Quartz Watch which allowed
MI6 to send important messages to Bond, printing them out like a miniature teleprinter. The
tape bore some resemblance to label maker tape. Bond used a Lotus Esprit instead in this
movie , but despite the different vehicle it also has hidden machine guns in it. Lastly is the
ending of the movies .Both Skyfall and The Spy Who Loved Me has the same predictable
ending where James Bond succeeded in stopping the antagonist’s evil plots at the end of
both the movies.
Hence to conclude ,I have compared the similarities of both movies “Skyfall” and “The Spy
Who Loved Me” in terms of protagonist , antagonist , the women who worked with James
Bond , the gadgets used in both films and also the ending of the movies. James Bond is a
cool ,intelligent and badass character with various qualities and good looks making him an

3. idol to a lot of people. Both movies are good in their own way , but I still prefer Skyfall
because of the modern a better film quality and also better storyline.
