2. TETIAROA
• The island of all islands, Tetiaroa appears to be something
out of a storybook. Best known as Marlon Brando's private
island, this tiny atoll is a retreat fit for royalty. "Tetiaroa is
beautiful beyond my capacity to describe," Brando once
stated, "One could say that Tetiaroa is the tincture of the
South Seas." In his twilight years, the actor would simply
close his eyes and find himself instantly transported to the
still waters and swaying palms of this South Pacific haven.
• Tetiaroa holds a special place in Polynesian history and
culture, as it was once the exclusive and favored retreat of
Tahitian royalty. The atoll was passed through the hands of
many private owners until Brando negotiated ownership in
1965, after filming "Mutiny on the Bounty." Like many
before his time, the great actor fell in love with its tropical
beauty and relaxed charms.
3. TETIAROA
• Beyond its breathtaking beauty, Tetiaroa is a place of rare biodiversity,
providing a gorgeous natural sanctuary for tropical birds and precious
marine life. Brando's lifelong dream was to maintain Tetiaroa in its purest
condition. He pictured a sustainable, ecological habitat where people,
plants and wildlife could reside in harmony.
• True to his vision, The Brando is the only development on the island. It
combines luxury and environmental sustainability in one of the finest eco-
friendly resorts in the world. Drawing on the very latest in green
technology and the most ancient local knowledge, every structure is
dedicated both to pleasure and planet, sensuality and science.
• The world will come to know Tetiaroa as the place where a new
enlightenment allows humanity to live in natural luxury—where
humankind can be an integral part of a thriving ecosystem. Step barefoot
into your imagination and experience a private and pristine South Pacific
paradise.
4. Tetiaroa
• Tetiaroa has a special place in Polynesian history and
culture. It was the exclusive and favored retreat of Tahitian
royalty for centuries. Ancient marae (temples) built on the
atoll by early Polynesians can still be found there today.
With its rich history and ethereal beauty it will always have
a special place in the heart of Polynesians.
• The reef surrounding Tetiaroa and the large and spectacular
coral beds in the inner and outer lagoons provide a perfect
place for marine life to flourish. At least 167 fish species
have been observed around the atoll, from colorful
parrotfish and spotted eagle rays to blacktip sharks and
bonefish. Whales often pause at Tetiaroa during their
annual migrations, and dolphins frequently play off the
reef. During the nesting season, large sea turtles come to
lay their eggs on the coral sands beneath the trees.
5.
6. The Brando
• Surrounded by a protective coral reef with no opening
to the sea, Tetiaroa’s lagoons are warmer than any
other place in French Polynesia and serve as a natural
aquarium that encompasses some of the richest
marine habitats in the world. Only a short 15-minute
flight from the island of Tahiti, this jewel is a 4.5 mile-
wide atoll consisting of twelve motus. Thirty-five luxury
villas are nestled along the beachfront – each with
private plunge pool. All villas are self-sustaining with
renewable sources of non-fossil fuel energy and the
resort is expected to achieve LEED Platinum
certification.

• BOB'S BAR
• This is a very casual setting on the beach for
conversation and making friends. The bar is
named for Marlon Brando’s factotum (assistant)
on film sets. At the end of many days, Brando and
Bob would wind up at the bar for long talks.
Eventually the bar at Marlon Brando’s lodge,
Tetiaroa Village, became known as Bob’s Bar. Our
Bob’s Bar has retained the original bar from the
lodge Brando built. We have kept the name in
honor of Bob and all others who have worked,
and continue to work, anonymously to bring
Brando’s visions to life.
