Philippine Laws and penalties
1.) Jaywalking (MMDA Regulation No. 99-013)
Penalty: a.) Monetary fine of 150php
b.) Community Service for one day/ MMDA Seminar
Comment: For me, the monetary fine should be raised up so that regular
people who have such courage to do the violation will have second thoughts of
doing it because it will cost them much if they would. The Community service is
really good but sometimes violators do not take it seriously. Even MMDA
personnels also do not. Penalty for this should be raised.
2.) Colorum Operation for Public Vehicles (MMDA Code 015A)
Penalty: monetary fine
Comment: I think that monetary fine is not enough as penalty for this
violation. We should consider that bus companies have much resources and if
they repeatedly do such violation and pay all the same, they won’t learn the
main lesson of the penalty. There should be bigger punishment for this.
3.) Estafa (Article 315 of RPCP)
In layman’s term:“issuing cheque without funds”
Penalty: imprisonment (6 months- 20years)
Comment: The current punishment is rightful but the criminal’s bank
account should be forfeited and disposed so that they no longer have the guts
to do it all over again.
4.) Libel (Article 353 of the RPCP)
In layman’s term: “saying bad things about a person”
Penalty: imprisonment
Comment: Literally speaking, the tongue should be punished for this. But
the whole body will also feel the pain if we do. So with that given, might as well

2. the criminal should be imprisoned according to how many words they have
said. Each word would equal to one year in prison.
5.) Anti Piracy (Presidential Decree No. 532)
Penalty: Imprisonment
Comments: The government should adjust with this. The authorities should
have an equal and opposite defense to piracy criminals. They should impose a
legalization of properties like films that cannot be copied without proper
authorization. With that given, pirates will be lessened because they know that
there is a code or authorized seal that cannot be copied.
