Seventeen Minnesota-headquartered companies are on the latest Fortune 500 ranking of the largest public U.S. companies; 16 of which are in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro. Hormel is the non-metro outlier in Austin, MN. The highest density of Fortune 500s is in the Minneapolis CBD where five firms with a collective $127.3 billion in revenue are located within seven blocks of one another. The smallest Minnesota company on the list, St. Jude Medical, is undergoing a pending $25 billion acquisition by Illinois-based Abbott Laboratories, which will likely lower next year’s count by one. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2016.
