3. What is Empathy?
Empathy means being able understand and share how
someone else is feeling without them telling you.
Empathy means walking in another person’s shoes,
understanding their viewpoints and recognising their
emotions, whether or not you have experienced them
before.
People’s facial expressions and body language usually
give clues about how they are feeling.
Empathy is important as its a quality and virtue, which
makes us feel cared for and loved.

Listening: Listen with your ears, eyes and heart. It is really important to listen to others with an open mind and heart to actually hear what they are sharing and saying.
Feeling: Take the time to understand other people’s emotions and feelings from their perspective.
Thinking: Think about why a person might be feeling the way they do, what is causing this?
Acting: You can respond empathetically to the other person in a way that makes them feel like you genuinely understand them and in a way that is helpful to them
