A professional baseball team in Dallas-Fort Worth, the Texas Rangers are among the 30 teams in Major League Baseball (MLB). Since the team's formation in 1961, it has never won a World Series, which is the annual championship series of MLB. This is despite the Rangers being the only team after the New York Yankees to play in two consecutive World Series. The Yankees made it to the World Series from 1998 to 2001, while the Rangers featured in the championship in 2010 and 2011. The Rangers came close to winning the World Series in their first appearance in the finals in 2010 but could not defeat the San Francisco Giants in five games to take the title. In 2011, the Rangers returned to the World Series but fell to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games.
