1. The Power of People
in Information Governance (IG)
1
2. Introductions
Name?
Where do you work?
Why are you here tonight?
What do you already know about IG?
What do you hope to gain?
2
3. Overview
What is Information Governance?
Who, what, where, when, why & how is it empowering?
What role will I play?
When can I get started?
3
4. Unresolved Challenges
Information is maintained in disparate locations as
unmanaged, inaccessible, unsecured and unreliable
data.
Current policies and management cause competitive
disadvantage and unnecessary effort, risk and
expense.
Companies are unclear on how and where their data
is stored, what legal or business value it has, how
best to access and leverage it, and when they can
dispose of it.

5. Information Governance (IG)
IG is a concept involving strategically created
enterprise-wide frameworks and enforcement
mechanisms that define how information is controlled,
accessed and used.
It is the combination of strategies, policies, procedures
and enablers that meet an enterprise’s information
needs.

Bridges gaps between Corp. Governance, Risk Mgt.,
Compliance and Technology (GRC).
Connects senior executives, board directors,
information technology projects, priorities and
processes together.
Essential to safeguarding assets and enhancing
business performance.
Facilitates optimal efficiency, effectiveness and
responsiveness in operations across people,
processes, information and technology.

is the link to Enterprise Performance, written by Lee Ditmar.
7. What is your role?
To be effective, IG requires close collaboration and
communication at all levels.
It starts with the executive team promoting it as a
strategic imperative.
High-quality information is the joint responsibility of the
executive team, the IT team and those who lead the
charge on GRC.
