STORYTELLING: PAPA, PLEASE, GET THE MOON FOR ME

STORY TIME
This is a story about a little girl who wanted to play with the moon. Her Daddy waited for
the moon to get “smaller” until he’s able to bring the moon down from the sky and let his
little girl play with it for awhile.
This is a great way to learn and explore new words for kids as well! In this story, pupils
can learn the following:
● big and small
● the moon
● the ladder
● little girl and Daddy
● cat
● the concept of up and down
● dance and play
● star
Tell the kids to raise their arms over
their head, fingetips touching like a
moon, each time they hear the word
‘moon’. Read the story to the class
and praise them when they raise their
arms, whenever they hear the word
moon.
Teachers can prepare some
objects/toys and keep them in a feely
bag or basket to use them as they
read the story so as to reinforce
pupils’ understanding.
POST-STORY ACTIVITIES
1. During a second reading, pupils can take out an object from the basket and match
it with the picture or even act out some parts of the story. Mention the name of the
object as frequent as you can for retention. Once the story is finished, take some
objects and ask pupils what they are. They can also take an object of their choice
from the feely bag in order to name it.
2. Place the objects around the class and call out their names for pupils to go and
find them.
3. Sing some related songs like We’re going on a rocket ship – Super Simple songs
