1. After watching the video about racism, it made me realize just how real it truly is.
I had seen the same experiment done, but with young children. In a psychology class I
had in high school we watched the same women perform the experiment for the first
time. It was so easy for me to understand that children could fall victim to such an
arbitrary idea, but adults? Even though they knew what she was telling them was untrue,
they still had their feelings hurt. Even though they knew that after the exercise was over
they would never have to experience this again, they still became upset. I never realized
how easy it was to alter someone’s perception, but it truly is. You can plant almost any
idea in someone’s head, and if you tell them enough times, or if they see it enough times,
it will become real. I think it is terribly sad how real and how prevalent racism still is
today. But, unfortunately there is no way to totally eliminate it. In some facet, it will
always be there, it is impossible to change everyone’s mind.
