Students will work in groups to follow recipe for making “dirt”
Students will measure using cups, teaspoon, and tablespoon

Symmetry – Butterfly Wings
Teacher will give each student a large white paper with an outline of
a butterfly
Students will fold paper in half – creating a line of symmetry
Students will paint ONLY on one half of the paper
Students will fold the paper in half on the previously folded line
How can we identify the centerline of symmetry?

The Very Busy Spider and Grouchy Ladybug – Telling Time
Teacher will give each student a clock with movable hands. As
teacher reads the book, the students will put their hour and minute
hands on the correct time.
How can I tell time on an analog clock?
Best Bug Parade – Sizes, ordering (smallest to largest)
Teacher will read Best Bug Parade at read aloud time
During Math, students will sort bugs in order from smallest to largest
How can we sort items by size in relation to one another?
An Inchworm and a Half – Measurement
Teacher will use Inchworm and a Half as a read aloud text to serve as
an activating strategy to measuring

Students will read The Very Hungry Caterpillar and practice sequencing in
the correct order
How can we re-tell a story in sequential order?
Also practice sequencing of the life cycle of the caterpillar/butterfly

There’s an Ant in Anthony – Chunking
Teacher will read text aloud, having students write the words they
find that contain the chunk “ant” as they read the story
How can we identify chunks to help read a word?
Class will create their own book called There’s an end in
Brenda.
Students will brainstorm words containing the chunk end
Teacher will compile list of “end” words
Teacher will guide students to create class book
Students will draw illustrations for class book
Class will publish book to share with other classes, parents, and
friends

Students will do a mock interview with an insect of their
choice
Students will create a non -fiction writing of 5 paragraphs
