1.
2. I John 5:4-5
4 for everyone born of God overcomes the
world. This is the victory that has overcome the
world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes
the world? Only the one who believes that
Jesus is the Son of God.
3. John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in
me you may have peace. In this world
you will have trouble. But take heart! I
have overcome the world.”
5. What is Stress?
Stress is the body's reaction to harmful situations --
whether they’re real or perceived. When you feel
threatened, a chemical reaction occurs in your body that
allows you to act in a way to prevent injury. This reaction
is known as "fight-or-flight,” or the stress response.
During stress response, your heart rate increases,
breathing quickens, muscles tighten, and blood pressure
rises. You’ve gotten ready to act. It is how you protect
yourself.
6. Three forms of Stress
1. Acute stress
2. Episodic acute stress
3. Chronic
7. Acute stress is the most common form of stress
and is short term. It is described as a reaction to
an immediate threat, commonly referred to as the
fight or flight response.4,5 Common causes of
acute stress include noise, danger, crowding, or
isolation.
Three forms of Stress
8. Episodic acute stress is prevalent among those
individuals whose lives are constantly chaotic and
demanding. 4,5 These individuals are always in a
rush and tend to take on too many tasks at one
time.4,5 Individuals who worry a lot are also prone
to episodic acute stress.
Three forms of Stress
9. Chronic stress is defined as a type of stress that
occurs over a long period of time from either
internal or external stressors.4 Common causes of
chronic stress include financial problems, death of
a loved one, long-term relationship issues, or
having a demanding job or work schedule.
Three forms of Stress
11. I. Talk to God right away in prayer.
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in
every situation, by prayer and petition, with
thanksgiving, present your requests to
God. 7 And the peace of God, which
transcends all understanding, will guard your
hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
12. I. Talk to God right away in prayer.
Now when Daniel learned that the decree had
been published, he went home to his upstairs
room where the windows opened
toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down
on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God,
just as he had done before.
Daniel 6:10
13. II. Ask God for wisdom to solve the problem
that gives you stress.
That person should not expect to
receive anything from the Lord.
James 1:7
14. III. Take a rest in God's Presence
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and
burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke
upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and
humble in heart, and you will find rest for your
souls.
Matthew 11:28-29
15. IV. Be positive that God is in it and God
has a good plan out of it
And we know that in all things God works for the
good of those who love him, who have been
called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28
16. V. Forgive People causing the stress
right away.
21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord,
how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister
who sins against me? Up to seven times?”
22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but
seventy-seven times.
Matthew 18:21-22
17. VI. Apply 2 Chronicles 7:14 when stress
is caused by your own failures
if my people, who are called by my name, will
humble themselves and pray and seek my
face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will
hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and
will heal their land.
II Chronicles 7:14
