2. EARLY
EPs Surrounding the release
of their debut
album, Arctic Monkeys
released EPs. The album
covers for these seemed
to have a fairly simple
theme. They both go
against the Genre
Convention of featuring a
photo of the band
members in the art. And
the Who The F**k are
Arctic Monkeys art goes
even further against
conventions as it doesn't
even feature a band logo
3. WHATEVER
PEOPLE
SAY I AM,
THAT'S WHAT
I'M NOT
Arctic Monkeys go against Genre Conventions again for the front
cover of their debut album. Rather than featuring a band member on
the front cover, instead they have featured a friend of the band, Chris
McClure. Some would say that the fact he is smoking in the photo
could give off a “rebellious” vibe. It seems consistent with the past
single release, as it features the same logo
4. FAVOURITE
WORST
NIGHTMARE
Again, the band are nowhere to be seen in the
album art for their second album. Yet this is
different in the way that it is more complex, and
seems more graphically influenced. Where the
previous covers have been simple
photographs, this one has been edited inside the
house to look animated and colourful in contrast to
the grey outside. The band also changed their logo
for the release of this album, it seems more edgy
and abstract.
5. HUMBUG
For their third album, Arctic Monkeys finally
have a photo of themselves as their artwork.
The photograph has clearly been edited to
give it a retro edgy feel. Also the band
members have been edited to look “ghosted”.
I think this looks really effective.
Again, the band have changed their logo, it
appears to be a cross between their first
typewriter font, and their recent edgier look.
This cover still goes against genre
conventions, as it doesn’t have the name of
the album on it anywhere
6. SUCK
IT
AND
SEE
Arctic Monkeys push the
boundaries of simplistic artwork
for their fourth album with
possibly one of the most simple
album covers ever.
The band logo has changed
once again
