Trust in the Lord
1. Proverbs 3:5, 6 –
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;
nd lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge Him,
and he shall direct thy paths.
2. What does this verse mean?
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart” –
This is the center and marrow of true wisdom
Don’t confide in SELF but in GOD.
God directs our paths when His wise aid is
sought.

3. WHY should we live a life of dependence upon God?
•because that is the way to be safe (v. 5).
•Because that is the way to be happy(v. 1-4)
•Because that is the way to be healthful (v. 7, v. 8).
• because that is the way to be rich (v. 9, v. 10).
•because that is the way to gain wisdom,
and to be gained by her (v. 13-20).
4. How should we trust in him and lean on him, and let our
paths be directed?
by faith
by prayer.
Eg., Joseph, a man of
great faith and prayer.
5. He was hated by his brothers. He was sold to the Midianites,
who later sold him to Potiphar, an Egyptian official.
6. Potiphar’s carnal
wife eyed him and
falsely accused him
of being in an illicit
relationship with
her which put him
behind bars.
Here he was
scorned by the
other prisoners for
the undone crime.
7. And he was promoted to being the second ruler of the country.
God’s wisdom helped him interpret Pharaoh's dreams.
8. 1. By faith
Joseph rested his entire
confidence in the
o wisdom,
o power, and
o goodness of God, assuring
himself that His providence
has planned.
We must believe that he is
• able to do what he will,
• wise to do what is best,
and good.
9. We must address ourselves to him
accordingly, that means we must pray to
Him asking for it.
In all our ways, we must acknowledge God
with submission.
By prayer: Faith is always followed
by an action, and that is the act of
prayer.
10. When should we trust in him and lean on him, and
let our paths be directed?
In every thing, make our requests known
Eg., Jephthah uttered all his words before
the Lord in Mizpeh, Jdg. 11:11
11. Those that faithfully follow the pillar of cloud
and fire shall find that though it may lead them
about it leads them the right way and will bring
them to Canaan at last.
12. Lastly, Who should trust in him and lean on him, and let paths be directed?
Psalms 115:11 -Ye that fear the LORD, trust in the LORD:
he is their help and their shield.
13. You are in front of the Red sea and behind you is a whole army waiting to devour you
- How much can you trust in God that He can make a passage through the waters
and kill the entire army of enemies!
14. You are in the Lion’s den – Can you confide in God that he will turn the lions into
pussycats!
15. You are asked of God to prepare a boat because God will destroy it with a flood.
Will you trust God and obey?
16. There is trust in
the future
tense. The book
of Hebrews says
there is a
“better
resurrection”
awaiting those
who die for
their Faith.
17. Therefore,
Trust God for what He has done for you in the past,
Trust God for what He does for you in the present, and
Trust God for what God will bring to you in the future.
18. Finally, remember these 4 things.
1. Wisdom’s Invitation - Proverbs 3:5a
“TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL THINE HEART;”
2. Wisdom’s Instruction to the wise – Proverbs 3:5b, 6a
“LEAN NOT UNTO THINE OWN UNDERSTANDING.”
“IN ALL THY WAYS ACKNOWLEDGE HIM,”
3. Wisdom’s Insurance -Proverbs 3:6b
“AND HE SHALL DIRECT THY PATHS”
4. Wisdom’s Inquisitor’s Invite – Proverbs 9:13- 18
Not only is wisdom inviting, but also her inquisitor, the foolish woman
is calling. If you do not heed to wisdom’s invite, and to her instruction,
then you direct yourself to the paths of hell.
“But he knoweth not that … her guests are in the depths of hell.”
