Alligators and crocodiles have some key differences in their habitats and diets - alligators prefer fresh water and eat fish and birds, while crocodiles live in salt water and eat fish and deer. Crocodiles can also grow larger than alligators, reaching up to 23 feet long compared to 15 feet for alligators. However, they both bury their eggs in mud or sand, and the only area where alligators and crocodiles live together is South Florida.
