    Cảm biến là các phần tử nhạy cảm dùng để biến đổi các đại lượng đo lường, kiểm tra hay điều khiển từ dạng này sang dạng khác thuận tiện hơn cho việc tác động của các phần tử khác. Chúng có chức năng biến đổi sự thay đổi liên tục các đại lượng đầu vào (đại lượng đo lường - kiểm tra, là các đại lượng không điện nào đó thành sự thay đổi của các đại lượng đầu ra là đại lượng điện, ví dụ: điện trở, điện dung, điện kháng, dòng điện, tần số, điện áp rơi, góc pha,...
    Căn cứ theo dạng đại lượng đầu vào người ta phân ra các loại cảm biến như: cảm biến chuyển dịch thẳng, chuyển dịch góc quay, tốc độ, gia tốc, mô men quay, nhiệt độ, áp suất, quang, bức xạ,...

    Các lọai cảm biến quang thông dụng
    Lọai 1: Cảm biến quang thu phát chung
    Lọai 2 : Cảm biến quang thu phát riêng
    Lọai 3 : Cảm biến quang thu phát qua gương

    Các lọai cảm biến quang trên đều họat đông theo nguyên lý phản xạ ánh sáng.

    Lọai 1: Cảm biến quang thu phát chung được cấu tạo gồm một led hồng ngọai thu và một led hồng ngọai phát.Khi có vật thể tác động vào vùng phát tia sẽ làm phản xạ lại ánh sáng tác động vào led thu. Lúc này led thu sẽ tác động vào Transistor để out tín hiệu.

    Lọai 2 : Cảm biến quang thu phát riêng, Lọai này led hồng ngọai phát và led hồng ngọai thu được đặt riêng biệt ở hai phía đối xứng,khi có vật thể đi qua giữa hai led làm gián đọan ánh sáng, led phát không nhận được ánh sáng sẽ tác động out tín hiệu.

    Lọai 3 : Cảm biến quang thu phát qua gương,led phát sẽ phát tia hồng ngọai vào gương phản xạ, ở trạng thái không có vật thể đi vào vùng tia thì ánh sáng sẽ được gương phản xạ về led thu, khi có vật thể đi vào vùng phát tia sẽ làm gián đọan tia sáng về led thu, lúc này led thu không còn nhận được ánh sáng nữa sẽ kích họat transistor out tín hiệu.
