Crime films are films that focus on the lives of the criminals. The
stylistic approach of a crime film varies from realistic portrayals of a
crime to a more far fetched act of criminalisation. Normally the crime
and criminals are glorified in crime genres.

The main codes and conventions of a crime film are-
The consumption of alcohol and/or legal substances.
Use of weapons such as guns and knives.
The main character attending a rave or a party.
They emphasises the struggles and difficulties faced by the main character
as they are committing a crime or being the victim.
4. COSTUMES
In many crime films they will put a emphasis on the realistic side of life.
They normally portray the characters with very little money, like to party and
do drugs, and do not wear very expensive clothing. It is implied that the
characters are from rough backgrounds, are ‘chavy’, and like too party.
5. SETTING AND LIGHTING
The setting of crime films are generally in rough areas such as
council estates and the lighting is normally very dim and gloomy.
Crime films can be set in party scenes and also dark, open places such
as fields and isolated areas where crimes could happen.
