2. In addition to teaching children
fundamental movement skills, Game sense
provides students with the opportunity to
think strategically by addressing tactile
approaches to games
3. There are four categories of games in the Game Sense
approach that range from simple strategies to complex
strategies
Simple
1.Target : darts, golf, archery
2. Striking (or fielding): softball, cricket
3. Net andWall: badminton, volleyball
4. Invasion (or territory): soccer, football
Complex

4. Why use a game sense approach?
Despite the evident benefits of using a game sense
approach, few teachers are effectively implementing it in
their classrooms (Brooker and Abbot, 2001)
Through its constructivist approach, game sense is
student centred
Students are able to take control of their own learning as
they use Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) to pose and answer
questions about specific sports
In contrast to traditional approaches that focus on physical
ability, a game sense approach sets out to create
physically and cognitively skilled players
Students are able to trial different strategies and make
fundamental mistakes in safe environments
5. Provides opportunities for all students to participate
as it allows for modifications to suit students of all
abilities
Encourages students to be part of a team and develop
self worth (Townsend, 2007)
Promotes student understanding of a game as it
demonstrates specific movements needed to play
Inclusion of the fundamental movement skills
6. Unlike other sports, Game Sense removes
‘illimination’ or provides students with
opportunities to re-join the game at a later stage
Provides students the opportunity to develop
and work on Fundamental Movement skills
ITS FUN!!
