1. Level 3 Proficiency: Depth of Field
I want you to view the same scene in shallow depth of field, two different ways, by shooting the same scene
twice: once with background out of focus and once with ALL items in focus.
Step 1: Shooting





Set camera to “Av” and set your own ISO & WB
Set LENS to manual focus
You MUST use a TRIPOD!
Shoot 2 shots for EACH---one with foreground in focus and one with background – 16 shots total
You MUST change the APERTURE for full credit; I will check metadata!
Shallow Depth of Field (F4.5 – F8.0)
1. Outside person and tree – shallow DOF
Deep Depth of Field (F11 – 32)
Same shot deep DOF – ALL IS IN FOCUS!
2. Outside cars in lot – shallow DOF
Same shot deep DOF – ALL IS IN FOCUS!
3. Outside person and hillside – shallow DOF
Same shot deep DOF – ALL IS IN FOCUS!
4. Outside person your choice – shallow DOF
Same shot deep DOF – ALL IS IN FOCUS!
5. Inside person and chair/desk – shallow DOF
Same shot deep DOF – ALL IS IN FOCUS!
6. Inside – two people in long hallway – shallow DOF
Same shot deep DOF – ALL IS IN FOCUS!
7. Inside – object and person – shallow DOF
Same shot deep DOF – ALL IS IN FOCUS!
8. Inside – your choice – shallow DOF

Step 2: Grading – put in order, batch rename and conference for grade
