Case Study One: Case of the Reluctant Associate
You are the chairman of the department of surgery at an urban community hospital and the head of a large general surgery practice. The oldest member of the group is about to retire, and you need to recruit a new partner. You are hoping to recruit a person relatively new out of training to provide succession planning for the group, because you know that in the next five to seven years you will be retiring.
You’re in your office when one of the junior surgeons, Dr. Simon, asks to speak to you. He presents you with several credentialing packets for out-of-state licensure. He is on the staff of your hospital; however, he primarily works at another hospital in the area. You ask Dr. Simon if he would be interested in staying and joining your practice. He states his family is in the area, but he’s not sure whether he wishes to be a junior associate in another practice or not. You spend time discussing how this particular practice runs and what his duties would be and inform him that in a very short time he could become a fully integrated member of the group with equal say in medical matters and compensation equal to the amount of work that he produces. He asks several unusual questions such as “How many times a day will you call me?” “Will you be checking up on me?” and “Will I be able to make my own clinical decisions?”
It becomes apparent from this discussion that Dr. Simon probably has been treated poorly in his existing practice. He has not been allowed to make his own schedule and his decision making was second-guessed. The senior member of the practice created extensive work for him, while Dr. Simon was compensated for a small percentage of the work that he actually performed and the senior partner was making a large profit.
At this point, you explain how this new opportunity would be different and that Dr. Simon would be a partner in two years, joining with the other three members of the group. The members of the group all feel that he is well qualified and would be an asset to the group. You are willing to offer him a position in the practice. After much discussion and cajoling, he finally agrees to join the practice.

Your organization is wonderful. You start with the nature side of the debate, followed by the nurture side, then followed by articles that are sort of neutral. This is a great way to go over the information from your sources because you’re not jumping around all over the place.
4. Note whether this short essay convinces you that the author has located sufficient materials to be knowledgeable about his or her topic for the final essay and, therefore, is ready to proceed to taking a stand on the issue, which is our next step in the research process.

Regarding your in text citations, I noticed there were a couple of places where you included a quote, but you didn’t address the author or the year. Remember when including quotes to end it with (author, year) to prevent yourself from plagiarizing.
Regarding your references, I believe you have done them correctly. Great job! I always forget to do the hanging indent. Hopefully, I’ll remember for my final draft.

"How will we increase job satisfaction?" I asked. Apparently, the hospital administration had tried several things, including an "across the board" raise, with no change in the turnover rate. Nurse Jones suggested, "It's better to ask the nurses themselves. Empirical knowledge, again, is the best possible way to 'know' here."
"It sounds to me like we are actually going to conduct some nursing research here!" I said excitedly. Though we did have a couple of research reviews as part of the nursing program, this would be my first experience of an actual nursing research after my training. The prospect seemed really interesting.

I told the committee that we could conduct a survey to find out what would make the nurses happy. I told them about the research class that I had taken in my nursing program. While I did not remember all the details of the course, I had kept my notes from the class. I said that I would review my notes from the class and see if I could come up with some ideas for the next meeting.
We decided to adjourn for the day and meet later in the week. Each of us would think about the problem at hand and come back with suggestions.

Informatics meshes technology and information into something useful. In nursing, informatics uses media such as health portals, mobile apps, social networking, and telehealth to aide nurses, patients and other stakeholders in decision making. When utilizing informatics our knowledge increases, we communicate better, we become more efficient with our job, and we provide better patient care.
As a hospice nurse, I often admit patients with very little to no medical history. My scenario would be to have a database that shares all health information for patients. If this would be available, decisions could be made that is in the best interest of the patient immediately and not have to wait for information to be sent. When having to wait, it impedes patient care and often has to backtrack and change the plan of care. Many times there is vital medical history missed because the patient/family member is a poor historian due to disease process or stress of the situation. If there is one database for all information potential medication errors could be avoided because you would know information such as allergies, current and previous medications prescribed.
This technology is already available to some extent in the prescription pain medicine world. The prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) is a database that keeps track of controlled substances being prescribed. This is used in the fight against the opioid epidemic occurring today.
This idea is not new but has not come to fruition yet. If this was to occur, HIPPA would have to be strictly maintained. This could happen by having the patient sign an agreement allowing their information to be in the database and every provider having access to it. Many people travel even state to state and if there was a national database, all health records would be available at the fingertips of the provider no matter where the patient was allowing efficient and knowledgeable patient care.

"It sounds to me like we are actually going to conduct some nursing research here!" I said excitedly. Though we did have a couple of research reviews as part of the nursing program, this would be my first experience of an actual nursing research after my training. The prospect seemed really interesting.

I told the committee that we could conduct a survey to find out what would make the nurses happy. I told them about the research class that I had taken in my nursing program. While I did not remember all the details of the course, I had kept my notes from the class. I said that I would review my notes from the class and see if I could come up with some ideas for the next meeting.
We decided to adjourn for the day and meet later in the week. Each of us would think about the problem at hand and come back with suggestions.

In nursing, informatics uses media such as health portals, mobile apps, social networking, and telehealth to aide nurses, patients and other stakeholders in decision making. When utilizing informatics our knowledge increases, we communicate better, we become more efficient with our job, and we provide better patient care.
As a hospice nurse, I often admit patients with very little to no medical history. My scenario would be to have a database that shares all health information for patients. If this would be available, decisions could be made that is in the best interest of the patient immediately and not have to wait for information to be sent. When having to wait, it impedes patient care and often has to backtrack and change the plan of care. Many times there is vital medical history missed because the patient/family member is a poor historian due to disease process or stress of the situation. If there is one database for all information potential medication errors could be avoided because you would know information such as allergies, current and previous medications prescribed.
This technology is already available to some extent in the prescription pain medicine world. The prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) is a database that keeps track of controlled substances being prescribed. This is used in the fight against the opioid epidemic occurring today.
This idea is not new but has not come to fruition yet. If this was to occur, HIPPA would have to be strictly maintained. This could happen by having the patient sign an agreement allowing their information to be in the database and every provider having access to it. Many people travel even state to state and if there was a national database, all health records would be available at the fingertips of the provider no matter where the patient was allowing efficient and knowledgeable patient care.

As being a human service professional I am presented with a male patient age of 56 year named Sammy. The patient has problem with alcohol and that he’s been battling with bouts of depression for many years. He states that whenever he is presented with a problem, whether it be work or family related he turns to alcohol to cope with his problems. After reviewing my notes in Sammy’s case my observations, results of his Cage and MAST test, I have a challenging decision to make due to Sammy not just having a problem with alcohol but with depression also. I evaluated that Sammy suffers from Substance Abuse and Dysthymia. I based my decision on Sammy’s history of abuse of alcohol and its persistence; however, it is not severe enough to meet the criteria for substance dependence. Based upon the challenges faced by the patient I would utilize positive psychology approach such as psychological therapies and self-help groups such as Alcohol Anonymous. I do believe these options would be beneficial in helping Sammy maintain a healthier lifestyle. After encouraging the Sammy by suggesting that recovery is possible not just for a select few, the positive psychologist then begins to work with the addict to re-envision life and begin a process of self-discovery in which the patient comes to know what activities and relationships are most important to him (Seligman, 2004). As being human service professional, I would follow codes of ethics that focus broadly on standards of practice that are inseparable from the behaviors and ideas that workers bring to the profession. The National Organization for Human Services crafted its Ethical Standards for Human Service Professionals to consider ethics in terms of the responsibilities human service workers have to clients, the community and society, colleagues, employers, the profession and the workers’ selves. Under these ethical standards I will do everything possible to safeguard the privacy and confidentiality of Sammy information. Aside from direct service with this patient I would have an ethical responsibility to advocate for client, community empowerment, and to protest social injustice NOHS. (n.d.).

Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
