This project involves rain water harvesting in a drought-prone, poverty-stricken area of India consisting of 5 villages surrounded by hills with scarce drinking water. Continuous contour trenches and two large plastic-lined ponds were constructed to collect and store rainwater. Local and eco-friendly trees will be planted along the trenches to increase water absorption while farmers will use drip irrigation systems fed by the ponds to irrigate crops and maintain the trees, helping to conserve water and allowing cattle grazing and farming as livelihoods.
