“The Storm of the Century”
This past winter has been the worse for northern states of the United States of America. A
single large snow storm plowed through the northern east coast. Georgia received snow ,but only
the very edge of the large and powerful storm. The stormed snowed up to 30 inches in states
such as Pennsylvania. It had wind gusts of up to 55 miles an hour, destroying houses and
business buildings. The storm, nicknamed Storm Jonas by the weather channel, had 11 states into
a state of emergency. Storm Jonas left many without power in mainly North Carolina, but in
other states as well. It also flooded New Jersey with over nine feet of water increasing the death
rate and damage. The storm came unexpected by meteorologists which is why the storm caught
everyone by surprise. It ended up causing a mass panic in society. On top of the individual crises
happening, the economy had an even bigger one.
The storm did an estimated $500 million in damage ,but some predict it did up to a
billion dollars. Almost everything came to a complete stop in the north east including; roads,
flights and most other forms of transportation. Without the transportation of products or services,
many companies had to close. This of course hurts us in many ways; prices of gas, foods and
other products or services.
While the storm didn’t hit Georgia directly, it still affects us in many other ways. We may
not suffer from the consequences from snow; such as excesses snowfall or flooding. We do hurt
from other things such as the stop of transportation causes a lack in products and services
creating a mess up in supply and demand.
