Life Skills After High School
School, the place where most kids spend their youths to learn. Schools today are not teaching the life skills necessary for students to use when they
become an adult. Academic skills are important; however, life skills are absolutely necessary. Life skills can range from knowing how to correctly
write a check to something as simple as communication. After graduating high school it is a big leap to join a environment without school. At this point
whatever you learned in history about the presidents will have no significant value at all. Life skills are what really matters after high school; how to
manage your time, what is interest on buying a car or house, is it worth taking out loans for education, and insurance policies are just a few key
essential skills.. These life skills needs to be taught, and taught at school because it is the most efficient place to learn. This genre of a class can also
pique the students interests on learning. High school needs to have a life skills class as a graduation requirement for students. This will solve all the
addressed issues that will be coming their way in the future. By tweaking the school curriculum it can solve life problems that will drag the students
down in the future. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They need to know what to do during certain situations and scenarios. Students needs to have knowledge on what actions to take in emergency
situation, such as the house being on fire or after a car accident. These situations trigger the fight or flight responses in the brain sending a influx of
emotions to the students. When the emotions take over it can lead to irrational decisions. The students needs to grasp the situation and understand what
actions to take for a higher probability of survival. Life becomes all of a sudden more realistic when the results could end up with their life

Life After High School "You have to stay in school. You have to. You have to go to college. You have to get your degree. Because that's the one
thing people can't take away from you is your education. And it is worth the investment" (Michelle Obama). College is a necessity in order to succeed
in life, and while many may believe you can do just as well without a degree, you just don't have the same potential for growth in the long run. College
is a key to future success because with a better education, you have the potential to learn more about different jobs, different paths to major in,
and in the end you have the support and knowledge over others who do not. This in turn gives the advantage to any college graduate that is
looking for success and a job in the future. One example as CNN Money has portrayed is that almost all of the jobs offered after the Great Recession
were given to those with a college degree, either bachelor's or associate's. "8.4 Million college graduates with at least a Bachelor's degree landed a job
in the recovery, while 3.1 million graduates with a Associate's degree or some college, and only 80,000 people with only ahigh school diploma got a job
of the 11.6 million jobs created after the recession" (Lubby). This article on CNN shows how 99% of the jobs were given to those with a college
degree, and while a few were given out to those with only a high school diploma, it is shown that a degree may be the only reason you get any sort of
income in

Life After High School
I've just entered my senior year of high school. I know that this is a very important year. I have a lot of decisions to make and not much time to
make them. These decisions will either make or break my life, and I want to make sure that I make them to the best of my ability because there is no
turning back. I need to make sure I definitely want to attend college. The decision is totally up to me. There are many positives and negatives of
attending college. Go over them, and then decide. I know myself better then anyone else, and I won't let anyone else tell me what to do. I will make
sure if I am going to attend college that I have something in mind that I will want to do, to succeed in. Choosing a major can be a ... Show more content

I knew I wanted to do this because I was very interested in sports my whole life. It wasn't an easy decision in choosing a school, but I think I made
the best choice based on my major right now. In a short essay "College? What's in It for me?" by Steven M. Richardson, the author makes some very
good points about college. Richardson states that there are a lot of reasons to not attend college, but furthermore states that attending college is your
best bet at succeeding in life. Richardson states "The biggest reason for not going, probably, is that college costs money" (169). On the other hand, he
states, "The decision to attend college is an investment in your future–a risk, certainly, but one with a big payoff if it's the right decision for you" (171).
These are the things I had to think about along with millions of high school–students before making my decision on what I wanted to do with my life.
Choosing a college is only the first part of the decision making process. What I want to do for the rest of your life is the question that the majority of
high school students will ponder. As Richardson states, choosing a college as well as choosing a major is definitely an investment. The way you
handle that investment is up to you. If you handle it correctly your investment will pay off immensely in the end (171). This is why I chose Athletic
Training as my major.

The Importance Of My Life After High School
Graduating from high school is a milestone that forces one to make my future come true. I plan on going into the Military after high school because
right after high school I don't see myself going to college. I just need a break from it because I do not like doing homework at all. Also, school is
getting boring because we don't learn anything new, we mostly just learn the same things over again. While others may plan to go to college, after high
school I intend to go to the Navy because I don't see myself going to college right after high school. I plan to get a Bachelor Degree in something. So
that is why I am going to the military to know what I will be doing. If I just go to college straight after high school I will not know what I will be doing
there. Going to the military first is a great idea for me instead of going to college first. I just need a break from school and all of the paperwork. My
goal is to learn what career I will be making my six years being in the military through work experience.
In the article,"Not Going to College is a Viable Option" says that "college, however, is not always the logical next step for high school graduates"(6).
Schlack is telling people everybody does not always want to go to college right after high school. Some students don't see themselves going to college
right after. I have also taken NJROTC class that has taught me skills like leadership, and kindness. The last two years being in the NJROTC class, it

Life After High school College is not worth the time and effort because there more to life after high school then just college and the military is a
better alternative right after high school. Start a business. Many of the entrepreneurs, people will hear about today did not get a college degree and
ended up doing well in life. Steve Jobs started Apple, Pixar, and NeXT Computer after dropping out ofcollege due to financial issues. The good thing
about starting a business is that " you do not necessarily need a business degree to start your own business – you just need an idea and a
plan"(Barrington). If a person goes to college to get a business degree they will end up taking classes do not need to take, which wastes time and
money. Money is always a problem. Student debt is a big problem with college students. Wieder said "Students today are taking on more debt and make
higher education a risky investment." First starting out in a business one might have some debt, if they take out loans, but as their business grows
they will be able to pay it off. People will have more time to accomplish their goals. Getting a degree takes 4 years and if someone wants a higher one it
will take longer. In those 4 years a person's business can so much and they will already have a job. Starting a business will help one become more
knowledge and understand real life problems. Get a job. If a person does not want to start a business they can get a job. There are many well paying
jobs out there that do not require a degree. Jobs a person can get with a high school diploma are a food services manager, mechanic, insurance agent,
and many more. If a person already has a job in high school and they work hard, then the employer might not want to let them go. "Students who
worked part–time during high school might be able to stay with the same employer on a full–time basis and with higher pay" (Johnson). Sometimes,
when getting a job it does not matter what type of degree one has, it is about how hard they are willing to work to get it done. "Labor market is not
between those with more or less education, but between those services can be delivered" (Crawford). Someone can get a career job they been wanting

The Importance Of My Life After High School
As a young girl being the daughter of two Mexican immigrants, who came to this country to seek for a better life for them and for their children.
My main goal after graduating high school is to continue my education no matter what. As a young little girl my dream was to become a ob/gyn.
Growing up was a little rough my parents got separated and my father left us leaving my mom as our only support system for my siblings and I. The
only person as my father figure was my two oldest brothers who always encouraged me to do my best in school. Growing up into a young lady I still
held onto that dream, going into high school my freshman year I still knew that I wanted to be a ob/gyn. During my freshman year I didn't do so hot in
school, so I knew that during my sophomore year of high school I had to step up my game. On the very first day of school of my sophomore year my
English teacher made us write three goals on a piece of paper that we wanted to accomplish by the end of the year or accomplish in life over all. I wrote
my three goals down which were, to pass all my classes and finals with good grades, to become a doctor, and to continue my education after high
school no matter what. As the end of my sophomore year approached I was very proud of myself for having good grades. So all the way up to my
senior year in high school I made a promise to myself to continue working hard for what I wanted in life and to keep striving for excellence in school
and sports. After I graduate

Life After High School
Life after high school can be one of the most difficult decisions in your life. And it is not just one decision, the college you choose can alter many
aspects of your life. When you attempt to choose a school to go to you have to take into consideration many things. You have to know the major
you want to go for, the minors, location, tuition cost, et cetera. I have so many options for the next step in my life. For this paper, however, I have
narrowed it down to two options: Miami University and the University of Cincinnati. It is a close race between the two, but based on my recent
visit to Miami going there for college would be the better option for my future. Money is an issue for mostly all college students, everyone is
always worried about the debt they will obtain by going through schooling and how they are going to pay it off. Unless someone can get a full ride
scholarship, you are going to have to owe money to the university you go to. My solution is that I will be making enough money after college to
pay it off pretty quickly so I do not have to owe too much money throughout my life. Miami tuition is around $15,000 and room and board is around
$13,000 so the total is somewhere close to $28,000 ("2017 Cohort"). Cincinnati tuition is $11,000 and room and board can be from $11,000 to
$13,000, so between $22,000 and $24,000 would be the total ("UC Facts"). I intend to get scholarships through various companies or associations to
bring the total price per year down.

Being Unprepared For Life After High School
Public schools help students become prepared for society until the day they graduate from high school. Over the years, students do not continue since
they do not feel that they are prepared for college and decided to earn a low–paying job instead. Therefore, more students are either dropping out of
high school or not attempting to enroll in college to improve their education.
From my experience, as a student myself, I can relate to the impression of being unprepared for life after high school. During my high school years,
many teachers do not clarify the lesson and expect students to understand the materials by a certain time. Learning only half a chapter and must learned
two chapters by the next day. Some schools, however, only cover subjects

The Greasy Lake And Life After High School
In both "Greasy Lake" and "Life After High School" the protagonists are both subjected to external conflict that forever changes their course in life.
With so much emphasis on the differences between individuals these days, it is imperative that people recognize this powerful commonality between
the spectrum of humanity. Two completely different people living completely different lives are somehow still directly linked through the intrinsic
nature of life. Even though the narrator from "Greasy Lake", Joe as he will be called from simplicity sake and Sunny from "Life After High School" are
separated by gender and culture, both share the commonality of a metamorphosis as the direct result of an external conflict. Regardless of the shape or
appearance of this metamorphosis, I purpose that both Joe and Sunny are of the same element that only differ in structure and appearance due to the
differences in both the stimuli and base parameters in their life.
In this case, Sunny and joe's base parameters or starting points differ quite a bit. Joe is a greaser working on meeting the criteria and trying to live
up to the name. He had the look and behavior down pat, wearing "torn up leather jackets," and "striking elaborate poses" to show people he doesn't
give a damn. Yet, he is still largely an innocent adolescent just trying to find his way in the world. Sunny on the other hand was a cheerleader and the
light that her name implies. When the quarterback "Chuck Crueller" was taken off

Life After High School Is Full Of Uncertainty
Life after high school is full of uncertainty. There are many different paths that one can take like going straight into the workforce, joining the
military, or attending college. Picking one of these paths was easy for me; I am positive that I want to go to college. However, deciding which college
to go to is a seemingly impossible decision. Not only do I have to figure out which college is the best academic fit, but I also decide which track
program suites me best. There are a lot of different factors to consider, and after looking into many schools, I have my choices narrowed down to the
Ohio State University or the University of Akron. If I had to make my decision right now, with all the information I have about the University of
Akron and the Ohio State University, I would have to go with Akron. When considering colleges, the cost of tuition tends to be the elephant in the
room. It's no secret that a higher education comes at a great cost. If students aren 't careful, they can find themselves drowning in student loans for
many years after they graduate. Applying for scholarships and financial aid are great ways to lessen and manage this debt. Fortunately for me, I have
the opportunity to go to Akron without paying a penny. The full ride that they're offering me for tack is a huge factor to think about when deciding
which college I want to go to. Ohio State, on the other hand, has not offered me any scholarships to this date. I'm waiting to go on my official visit to

Young, immature, and unaware of what the future would have in store for me after graduation. During this time in my life, I just expected things to
come to me as if I didn't need to put forth the effort to make it in life. I would have never thought that the procedures to get into college would be so
ambiguous, and the fact that I went to a college preparatory school gave me the mindset that going to college would be simple. My grades in my
underclassman career were without a doubt atrocious for my capabilities. I had a bad habit of procrastination and an awful attitude that caused me
to be passive about anything that had happened. Since I go to a small school it's never been hard for the staff to notice when a student doesn't seem
to have everything going convenient in their lives. I was pulled to the side by our dean of students one day and of course like any normal student I

Narrative Essay On Life After High School
As a two year old, I wasn't able to talk my father out of suicide. My background isn't the most typical, and it's quite astonishing to be where I am. I
may not be the top in my class, but my background is what makes me unique. I lost my father at a very young age and my mother moved us around
often, one abusive boyfriend after another. The one thing I never let go of is my love of people.
Although I grew up around domestic violence, I knew when I grew up I'd help people. Today, I'm in that place to decide, and I still value that.
Hearing and seeing my mom getting hit every night scared me. I never knew what I'd wake up to. Feeling constantly anxious took a toll on me, and I
stopped doing my work in school. I saw my grades and life slipping. Luckily for me, I was sent into foster care. Living with a complete stranger in a
new place isn't the most wanted situation, but anything was better than that. I promised myself that high school was going to be different; I was going to

here right now, today. I never thought I'd make it this far, and sitting here today is my biggest accomplishment yet. I know in college I will continue

"And, beyond money, education seems to make people happier and healthier." (David). Back in the day every parent wanted to their child to go to
college and get the education they needed. Now a days the topic is do kids even need to attend college after graduating high school. Some people think
college cost to much, but after any education is college the boss will pay more and some say college is worth the investment.
After any college education people look at your differently, especially a future boss. The people that go to college after graduation can get paid
way more in a job than people that only have a highschool diploma. The degree somebody gets in college looks great applying for a job in the
future, and there is no doubt the pay can be higher in the job after going to college. The amount of education someone has can depend on the
amount of money made in a job, "Three decades ago, full time workers with a bachelor's degree made 40 percent more than those with only a

Life After High School Character Analysis
High school: a place of acceptance, growth, and love. Life After High School by Joyce Carol Oates takes place in the small town of South Lebanon,
New York in 1959. Oates details the lives of three students: Zachary Graff, Barbara "Sunny" Burhrman, and Tobias Shank. Zachary struggles with
finding love; both Sunny and Tobias turn him down during the rough times of the 1950's, and Zachary's struggle ultimately leads to his death.
Throughout the stories the three characters mask themselves behind a happier and fitter version of themselves; the hide behind religion, lies, and
stereotypes. Oates writes in a third person limited point of view to reveal the theme of hiding one's identity is destructive. Oates creates a perspective
of literary fiction to reveal the emotion of what the characters feel, think, and act.
Through a third person limited point of view, Oates exposes the mental and emotional struggles the characters face in Life AfterHigh School; and their
growth while overcoming the challenges faced. The short story is written through Sunny, a dynamic character; whatever she knows, we also know.
Sunny is described as sweet and kind with an "astonishing smile" which implies how she got her name. Sunny symbolizes the stereotypical high school
student, "popular, confident, good–looking, club officer, prom queen" (574) To her classmates she's is seen as the "All American girl too good to be
true who is nonetheless TRUE" (577) Although Sunny represents an all American girl; she

Life After High School Essay
Life after high school comes with a lot of important decisions. The large cost of a college degree and the increasingly competitive job market have
both added to the stress of this decision. The decision to go to college is one of the most important choices of a student 's life, and it can affect their
careers and finances for the rest of their lives. These days, the rising cost of college is making students have to decide between the large sum of debt
associated with a college degree or joining the workforce with a lower salary. Despite this fact, getting a college degree of some sort is worth the
debt due to benefits like a larger salary that follow later in life. Students that receive a college degree make more than their high school graduate
counterparts. "Among millennials ages 25 to 32, median annual earnings for full–time working college–degree holders are $17,500 greater than for
those with high school diplomas only" (Kurtzleben, 1). Students that have received a college diploma have had a higher income that will help them
pay off their debt. When all of their debt is gone, that extra money will give them a financial advantage because they will be making so much more.
Graph 1 shows the difference in the levels of a person's education compared to their income. The graph shows that the higher the education the higher
their income within the last 40 years. Especially since 2000, the average wage of a worker with a bachelor's degree has risen from $60,000 a

For as long as I can remember the only things I have wanted to do with my life is build and create. As a kid I was obsessed with building Legos but

My Life After High School
In February during the finales months of my senior year in high school, I began to start thinking about my life after high school. I had no idea of
what I wanted to be in life. I knew I had liked arguing with people and standing up for what I believe. Then one day, I was watching one of my
favorite movies "Legally Blonde". A brief summary of the movie is that it is about a "dumb blonde' girl who gets the opportunity of a lifetime to
become a lawyer by attending Harvard Law School. In the beginning, she was lost but somehow turns everything around and proves to the world
that blondes are smart, and that you can do anything if you have faith in yourself. After watching this movie, a light bulb had lit up in my head, and
I knew what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to be a lawyer. I was unaware on the steps it took to be a Lawyer, so I asked my teacher about what
I should major in to become one. She told me to major in political science. I had never heard this word before so I researches it to find more about it.
When researching something its best to find the definition to give you an overall idea, so you can form your own viewpoint of it. When I looked up
Political Science I found the word "Politics" being a big influence about it, and that's when I became interested in politics. Webster's Dictionary had

My Life After High School
There comes a time in every adolescent 's life in which reality begins to strike them. From an adults perspective this early stage is viewed simply as
immaturity. Starting high school was a big change in my life and was a step in the direction of young adulthood. As individuals around me attempted to
navigate down that similar path I gained a crisp taste of my identity. All of a sudden what was once a long distance future evolved into the near future as
high school years passed and a test of my character was close at hand. I had to start thinking about college, my future, and who I really wanted to be.
When a reality check was brought upon me I began realizing that I am the only one that can determine my future, and that numerous factors in my
control will be responsible for how my goals and ambitions are pursued. In addition to that, the choices that I choose to make in the next few years
will determine how my life plays out. Slowly but surely I began realizing I also began realizing that the people around me won 't always have the
same intelligence, ambitions, and goals that I do but, choosing to use that as a driving force towards success is the only option I seem to have left. A
great majority of parents mention to their kids that those individuals they choose to surround themselves with will be a reflection of how they
themselves will evolve to be. As I ventured into my first year of high school I quickly realized how truthful that statement was. Walking down the

the average 9–5 I would work more so somewhere around 7 am to 3 pm. I will sometimes have to start at 7 and not get off until 5 depending on
when I finish my last scheduled job. For any overtime work after the scheduled time of a job, the average rate would be about $30.00/hour past the

I would live in Miami because I have always dreamed of living in Florida and my roommates and I found a very reasonably priced apartment in
Miami. Our apartment has 2 bedrooms and the rent is $284/month per person. The apartment does have a large security deposit fee of $3000 due to
the amount of furniture included in the apartment. This will be split among the three of us and we will each pay $1000 before moving in. This will
only be paid once though. Although the apartment is furnished, I would estimate roughly $1000 for extra

My Life After High School
It was my junior year in high school, when my life began to change. While I sat in my English class, with my head laid on top of the hard wooden
cold desk, I thought to myself, what am I going to do. How was I supposed to provide for this child, but my mind kept think back to how was I going
to let my mother know, that her youngest high school daughter was about to become a teen parent. I was scared. I was scared for my future. As the
days became months, my belly continued to grow more and more. Rumors began to start escalate, is she really pregnant, wow I did not even know she
had a boyfriend. I was the unpopular girl who no one knew. The girl who would sit in the back of the class all alone. I was the girl who wanted to be
popular, or even the girl who everyone wanted to be friends with, but I was not. I was the knocked up high school student as people would say. I had
many people reject me and few accept me for who I was. Due to me becoming a teen parent I received various levels of support from my family,
teachers, and the little friends I did have.
I was so frighten to tell my family, especially my mother who was all the way in Florida. I grew up with a strict mother, who wanted me to go
nowhere and to stay home at all times. I started to panic, walking back and forth across my room, then all of a sudden my sister barges in my room.
Screaming on the top of her tongue asking me why haven't I told my mother. She then calls my mother on the phone, getting straight to the

My Life After High School
As the oldest child in my family, my mom and dad always expected me to be the best child. They expected me to get good grades, to be a good
student and for me to go to college. My parents always thought that I was better than most kids since I didn't do drugs or constantly mess up. I had
to be this perfect child that got good grades and was a good person. Growing up with this pressure on my shoulders, I pushed myself to be this perfect
child. Even though I didn't like doing some of those things. I knew going to college after high school was expected of me. I never really liked school,
and I wasn't sure what I wanted to be yet. But, I knew that I wanted to go to college so I wouldn't have to struggle in my life and with bills just like
my parents did. The most important thing to me is that when I become older, I will be content and happy with my life. I had to go through a lot to
figure out what I wanted to do with my life. I decided to become an art teacher. In high school, I never really knew what I wanted to be when I
became older, and all I knew is that I wanted to have a career that would be stable enough without causing me to struggle in life. I looked into
different careers that I thought I would like to pursue after I got out of high school. First, I wanted to become a veterinarian, but then I realized that I
wasn't really good at science even though I loved helping animals. While I was still in high school, I always would hang out inside of the art

Life After High School Essay
High school is a time of stress and anxiety. This not only includes school work and social life, but the school system plays as tremendous of a part in
it as the student himself. People complain, "the school system does nothing to prepare students for tests, school work etc." or "school is being forced
upon us, why even go?". These issues not only change the way students act, but the way they affect society.
School readiness is a major concept in why students do not attend school. The bridge to prepare them is simply not there. This does not necessarily
apply with life after high school, but life in high school. Healthy or not, students always focus on grades, they rely on teachers to prepare them for
tests, homework etc., to receive satisfying grades. Yet, the teachers and the school system do nothing to help. According to source E, written by Floyd
Norris, the United States fell in the bottom half in the comparison of mathematical skills shown by fifteen year olds. Something has to be missing,
right? All students, parents, and even the school board wants is to notice students receive better grades, for what?, the sake of a percentage or ranking?
This should not be the factor of a student's success. In the graph depicted in source E the United States, ranking, worldwide, is the twenty eighth with
ten percent of students in the top and twenty five point seven percent of students in the bottom. What can schools do to prevent this helplessness in
students? Schools need to

Personal Narrative: Life After High School
Walking to the bus stop that morning was difficult, but exciting at the same time. I was soon going to be at the high school for my first day. I knew
that it was just an orientation, but I was still nervous. I don't have any older siblings so taking my first step into the school was like a step in the dark,
I had no idea what high school would actually be like. Little did I know that high school would change the way I view life, school, and grades. Middle
school is a transition phase where it teaches you how to go from class to class and exposing you to different types of teachers. However it is
completely different from high school in the sense of preparing you for life after school. High school made me think about what I want to do for a
career and how I can get there by having me choose from the many different electives. One of the graduation requirements is to find what job
interests you most and figure out more about the career and if it would be a good job for you. Before high school I had never really thought of what
I would do when I grow up, but now it is impossible not to consider what careers that you want to pursue because it matters what classes you take now.

I still wanted to do my best, but I was not always so motivated to do all the work. I did not think of school as seriously as I should have. In high
school I learned that I have to work extra hard to push off my middle school side and to take my work seriously. I have pushed myself to take harder
classes and to take classes that I actually enjoy rather than just be pushed into a class. In middle school we only could choose one from two electives,
but now I can choose classes that I can find interests

WOW! Did you know that it is good for students to commit to a career by high school? Some people probably wouldn't agree, but you have to stop
and think why it would be good for the students. I know some does not have clue what they want to be when they graduate. It can prepare them for life

want to do, and it would make it easier for the students. To begin with, it can help students to be ready for college. For example, some of my friends

Going To Life After High School And After College
When the word progress comes to mind what do we think of; The way our society improves or diminishes? Or do we just think about how we
improve ourselves personally? The steps a person takes through high school and after graduation is one of the most important steps one person can
take in their life. but each individual person has different routes they wish to attend, most people will proceed in the direction towards progress and the
two most common ways of progress that a person's route leads them down is either working after high school or going to further their education in
college. For the past few years the conversation has stuck around that weather or not college is the basic success plan for our future. I personally
believe that attending college isn't secured as a building block and won't provide progress if we just go to college because we have nothing else to
do. If we as a society start work after high school and only those who are dedicated go to college I believe that we will be better off as for social
progress. through close research I have been able to narrow down three topics, in the following essay, it will portray; how college can often set
someone off track because they aren't sure what they want to do at the young age people begin, people are often left buried in debt, and finally a job
isn't guaranteed after graduation. how college isn't necessary to succeed in the future. So the question that still remains is does going to college as a
building block

Personal Narrative: Life After High School
The school bell rang as students were eager to leave either to hang out with friends or just go home after a long day at school. Students from every
direction rushing to their cars or trying to catch the bus was usually an everyday seeing. Some staying for after school tutorials or even after school
clubs. Others not realizing that reality is about to hit us as our final school year is coming. Coming from a low–income family my thoughts about
becoming somebody in life were low. I was usually told I wouldn't make it because of my financial status. My dad Mario graduated from high school
neither did he complete middle school. He dropped out in the third grade. He was brought from Mexico into the United States at the age of 13 and
began working in the fields. My mother she graduated from high school and she did have a job at Washington Mutual Bank until she was fired. Every

Amanda Ward: Life After High School
It was spring of 1988. Her hands on the starting line, legs bent back at a 90 degree angle ready to explode down the track. BANG! The gun goes off,
and just 26.1 seconds later Amanda Ward had crossed the finish line and broken the record for the sophomore girls 200 meter sprint. The record she
broke that day now stands as the third fastest girls 200 meter time at Seattle Preparatory School.
Today, Ms. Ward is back in school studying at the University of Washington looking to get an administrative certification. She is "[interested] in the
opportunity to make widespread changes." But she hasn't always wanted to become a principal. As she entered the room with a soft click of her heels,
hair neatly parted down the middle, and toned calves only a runner could obtain, Ms. Ward started to describe to me howhigh school was a time to
"figure out who I was."
Thinking back twenty years, she remembered many of her classes that first year at Seattle Prep being only for freshman. She liked getting to know
people from other grades so one way to get around the fact that there were no upperclassman in any of her classes was to join a sports team. Soccer
and, more importantly, track were two extracurricular activities she remembers well about her freshman year. Little did 15–year–old Amanda Ward

why the world is the way it is today because of what has happened in the past." That mixed with hours and hours spent tutoring middle schoolers
sparked an interest in becoming a History teacher. Someone who ultimately influenced her was her 9th and 12th grade English teacher, Ms. Kennedy.

"What do you want to do with your life after high school" is a frequent question that I am asked from family, faculty, and friends. Deciding what I
want to do after high school was surprisingly quite easy for me, considering the fact that I have known what I wanted to do since freshman year. To
find out more information about becoming an anesthesiologist, I conducted a research project on everything I will need to complete to get on the
right track to seizing a job in this exciting medical field. The first phase of research included learning more about what being an anesthesiologist is,
and the different things that came along with the job. I learned more about what their tasks are, what the salary of an anesthesiologist is, and
miscellaneous things such as work hours and job placement. The next phase involved conducting an interview or job shadow with someone who has a
career in the field. I conducted an interview with Dr.Barrett at Clarion Hospital. This interview provided me with insight on what I need to do to
successfully obtain a career as an anesthesiologist. The last research phase was education. I researched three different undergraduate universities and one
medical school which were the University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, Grove City College, and the University of Pittsburgh School ofMedicine

This experience had brought an many things for me. I felt what freedom was like, flying high, wings out, breezing blowing through me. All the
knowledge that sometimes makes my head explode. Then not to forget the choice to start my life on the right path. In high school, the teachers
allowed me time to finish my work when I wanted to, complete the assignment in my perspective, possibly leaving lunch, and all these events I
could do in school now, which only showed the freedom brought in. On top of that, everyday I learned something, whether it was a life lesson
about waking up on time or 9*9. My teachers never wasted a day to teach, and the crazier thing is that it was all for me and my future. Lastly, in
my school teachers would just voluntarily let you know how you future is looking. I'm a complete stickler over my grades and they wouldn't mind
telling if I get a B on a paper then my 97% grade would drop to a 95% in a day. Teachers would tell me ways to start mycollege future because my
dream is to attend OU and major in biology. So they give me chances to take test, tell me about what I need to continue to do and many things more.

My Life After High School
After high school I wasn't sure what I wanted to do for a career. After years of wandering I decided to join the military. I completed basic training
and technical school in Texas. I was miles away from the comfort of family and friend back home in Maryland. This was the first time that I was truly
on my own. After training was complete I was moved to Spokane, Washington. where I completed my term in Spokane and it was time to reenlist or
get out the military. I was ready to have my life back so I decided against enlisting for another term. When it was time for me to discharge the first
question everyone asked me was "where I going?". In my mind I had two choices. I was either going stay in tiny Spokane or go back home to
Maryland. I spent a few weeks thinking about my options and at that time I was certain home was the best choice. Moving back home made sense for
several reasons:
1.I knew the area and I thought it would be easier to get around and find a place to settle.
2.I would be closer to family and friends.
3.It is not as cold as it is in Spokane.
4.There other cities nearby
5.Even though I wasn't excited about it I thought completing my degree in human resources was my best career option. I looked into school and found
one in Maryland.
6.I also wanted a job within the government system. After doing some research I found that there were more jobs for the department want to work for

The Pros And Cons Of Life After High School
High school. We have all been there. Four years of our life (maybe more for some) that we will never get back. Some may have enjoyed every
second those four years and others may have dreaded every single second they walked in those doors. High school is a time and place where you sit
in class for seven hours a day are lectured about needless topics. Education is a very important time in ours lives, however, there are ways we could
spend our education making it more useful so we are better prepared for the future. Most students think about graduating from high school from the
very beginning, thinking that they will be well prepared and ready to take on the real world. They think that is is going to be totally different from
grade school and they will have the options to take whatever classes they want that they feel are needed to be a successful adult but, little do they
know that most of their time will be spent on frivolous classes. In Laura Moser's article about being prepared for life after high school, she says,
"according to one study, only 8 percent of recent graduates have taken a "foundational set of course they'd need to be both college– and career–ready."
(Moser, Laura) Eight percent is a small sliver of the graduating classes who feel prepared to take on the real world. That leaves ninety two percent of
students who are thrown into life after high school and not knowing what they are in for. To graduate from high school in Illinois the requirements are:

Analysis Of Life After High School
The essay 'Life After High School" by Annie Murphy Paul is about the effect of a persons high school experience on what they do later in life. Paul
had been asked to be the commencement speaker at her old high schools graduation which made her wonder if our high school experience determines
who people become as adults. To see both sides of the argument Paul interviewed some experts and read studies on the topic. Some of the research has
shown that there some truth to the idea that high school has the ability to shape who we will become in the future. This includes research taken from the
Wisconsin Longitudinal study, which is one of the largest and longest–running research project on the effect of high school. For example that jocks are

Another rhetorical device used in the essay is a simile when talking about the possible impact of high school as it is either lasting or "faded as an
orchid corsage." This was a excellent use of a simile as it creates the comparison of a flower slowly diving to the impact of high school. This allows
the reader to understand how high schools impact on your life slowly becomes smaller as the years pass after graduation. Paul also uses rhetorical
questions to enhance her writing. When trying to convince the reader that your high school experience does not need to but limits on you life she uses
a rhetorical question "who, after all would have predicted that a long–haired loner like Bruce Springsteen from Freehold High School in New Jersey
would become the Boss?" Everyone knows the answer to the question but, it is able to show how no one really knows what will happen to you after
high school. Just like Bruce Springsteen who no one ever thought he would become a famous rock star. Sarcasm was also a literary device used by
Paul. By stating Kurt Vonnegut Jr. writing on our cultures obsession with high school is more unnerving than "the firebombing of Dresden and the
aftermath of the Vietnam war." A war is much more unnerving then a popular culture obsession but, it is able to show how much high school still
influences people. With the use of literary devices Paul was

Argumentative Essay: Life After High School
For many years now, countless have debated going to college after high school. Most people think they can live blissful lives and build a good living
even if they did not attend college. For several, this may be true to a certain degree. But now several if not all jobs nowadays require a high school
diploma and a bachelors' in some kind of degree. From the start, kids were always told to study hard and acquire good grades so afterward, they could
get into great colleges so one could have an amazing life. College is where one's life genuinely begins.
For those who do not attend college, life gets a tab bit difficult after a while. The job that once seemed promising is taking away because it was
given to someone with a degree and experience. So in, turn, many have to look for a new job, but now most require a degree of some sort. The only
thing available is a part–time job in a fast food restaurant. Now money is tight, and have to work many two or three jobs to make up for the one
lost. Spending more time at work leaves little to no time to have a special someone. It leaves no time to even take care of one's self because you no
longer have access to medical care. College is not just what comes after high school, in fact, a college will open your eyes to the world. Numerous

Theme Of Life After High School
"Life After High School" by Joyce Carol Oates is a brilliant demonstration of the tragedy that follows when individuals refuse to be true to themselves.
The protagonist, Sunny Burhman, must reconcile her high status and the ensuing idolization of her character with the pursuit of her hand in marriage
by the antagonist, Zachary Graff, whom she does not love. As Zachary presents her with a ring, she finally realizes that she no longer can lead him on;
she rejects him. He commits suicide as a result, and Sunny assumes she was the solo motive for his actions, though it is later revealed she was not.
Consequently, she draws upon the reader's pity by renouncing her cheery demeanor and devoting her life to accomplishments rather than the pursuit of

For instance, while walking with Zachary to his car, he asks her if she would be okay with him essentially following her to the university of her
choice. To hide her true feelings of impatience, she replies, "Why would I mind, Zachary?" (521). Had Sunny been true to herself and the way she
felt, she might have told Zachary to stop pursuing her long before he intended to marry her. In a sense, Sunny's real self is telling her to leave
Zachary; however, she brushes these feelings aside and cages herself. Perhaps, if she had been true to herself, it would've given Zachary the
necessary motivation to be true to himself. Instead, she places so much value in the person the antagonist, Zachary, thought she was that she was
unable to be true to herself in the present moment. Even as Zachary proposes, Sunny doesn't let her true feelings show; she simply says she cannot
marry him. After his death, she begins to pursue what it was she wanted from life: a high status in the form of academics, a career, and a family. She
compromises her joy for the flattery she receives from Zachary and denies her true self the presence it yearns

Life Skills After High School

  • 1. Life Skills After High School School, the place where most kids spend their youths to learn. Schools today are not teaching the life skills necessary for students to use when they become an adult. Academic skills are important; however, life skills are absolutely necessary. Life skills can range from knowing how to correctly write a check to something as simple as communication. After graduating high school it is a big leap to join a environment without school. At this point whatever you learned in history about the presidents will have no significant value at all. Life skills are what really matters after high school; how to manage your time, what is interest on buying a car or house, is it worth taking out loans for education, and insurance policies are just a few key essential skills.. These life skills needs to be taught, and taught at school because it is the most efficient place to learn. This genre of a class can also pique the students interests on learning. High school needs to have a life skills class as a graduation requirement for students. This will solve all the addressed issues that will be coming their way in the future. By tweaking the school curriculum it can solve life problems that will drag the students down in the future. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They need to know what to do during certain situations and scenarios. Students needs to have knowledge on what actions to take in emergency situation, such as the house being on fire or after a car accident. These situations trigger the fight or flight responses in the brain sending a influx of emotions to the students. When the emotions take over it can lead to irrational decisions. The students needs to grasp the situation and understand what actions to take for a higher probability of survival. Life becomes all of a sudden more realistic when the results could end up with their life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Life After High School Essay Life After High School "You have to stay in school. You have to. You have to go to college. You have to get your degree. Because that's the one thing people can't take away from you is your education. And it is worth the investment" (Michelle Obama). College is a necessity in order to succeed in life, and while many may believe you can do just as well without a degree, you just don't have the same potential for growth in the long run. College is a key to future success because with a better education, you have the potential to learn more about different jobs, different paths to major in, and in the end you have the support and knowledge over others who do not. This in turn gives the advantage to any college graduate that is looking for success and a job in the future. One example as CNN Money has portrayed is that almost all of the jobs offered after the Great Recession were given to those with a college degree, either bachelor's or associate's. "8.4 Million college graduates with at least a Bachelor's degree landed a job in the recovery, while 3.1 million graduates with a Associate's degree or some college, and only 80,000 people with only ahigh school diploma got a job of the 11.6 million jobs created after the recession" (Lubby). This article on CNN shows how 99% of the jobs were given to those with a college degree, and while a few were given out to those with only a high school diploma, it is shown that a degree may be the only reason you get any sort of income in ... • 3. Life after high school Essay Life After High School I've just entered my senior year of high school. I know that this is a very important year. I have a lot of decisions to make and not much time to make them. These decisions will either make or break my life, and I want to make sure that I make them to the best of my ability because there is no turning back. I need to make sure I definitely want to attend college. The decision is totally up to me. There are many positives and negatives of attending college. Go over them, and then decide. I know myself better then anyone else, and I won't let anyone else tell me what to do. I will make sure if I am going to attend college that I have something in mind that I will want to do, to succeed in. Choosing a major can be a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I knew I wanted to do this because I was very interested in sports my whole life. It wasn't an easy decision in choosing a school, but I think I made the best choice based on my major right now. In a short essay "College? What's in It for me?" by Steven M. Richardson, the author makes some very good points about college. Richardson states that there are a lot of reasons to not attend college, but furthermore states that attending college is your best bet at succeeding in life. Richardson states "The biggest reason for not going, probably, is that college costs money" (169). On the other hand, he states, "The decision to attend college is an investment in your future–a risk, certainly, but one with a big payoff if it's the right decision for you" (171). These are the things I had to think about along with millions of high school–students before making my decision on what I wanted to do with my life. Choosing a college is only the first part of the decision making process. What I want to do for the rest of your life is the question that the majority of high school students will ponder. As Richardson states, choosing a college as well as choosing a major is definitely an investment. The way you handle that investment is up to you. If you handle it correctly your investment will pay off immensely in the end (171). This is why I chose Athletic Training as my major. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Importance Of My Life After High School Graduating from high school is a milestone that forces one to make my future come true. I plan on going into the Military after high school because right after high school I don't see myself going to college. I just need a break from it because I do not like doing homework at all. Also, school is getting boring because we don't learn anything new, we mostly just learn the same things over again. While others may plan to go to college, after high school I intend to go to the Navy because I don't see myself going to college right after high school. I plan to get a Bachelor Degree in something. So that is why I am going to the military to know what I will be doing. If I just go to college straight after high school I will not know what I will be doing there. Going to the military first is a great idea for me instead of going to college first. I just need a break from school and all of the paperwork. My goal is to learn what career I will be making my six years being in the military through work experience. In the article,"Not Going to College is a Viable Option" says that "college, however, is not always the logical next step for high school graduates"(6). Schlack is telling people everybody does not always want to go to college right after high school. Some students don't see themselves going to college right after. I have also taken NJROTC class that has taught me skills like leadership, and kindness. The last two years being in the NJROTC class, it taught me things about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Life After High School Life After High school College is not worth the time and effort because there more to life after high school then just college and the military is a better alternative right after high school. Start a business. Many of the entrepreneurs, people will hear about today did not get a college degree and ended up doing well in life. Steve Jobs started Apple, Pixar, and NeXT Computer after dropping out ofcollege due to financial issues. The good thing about starting a business is that " you do not necessarily need a business degree to start your own business – you just need an idea and a plan"(Barrington). If a person goes to college to get a business degree they will end up taking classes do not need to take, which wastes time and money. Money is always a problem. Student debt is a big problem with college students. Wieder said "Students today are taking on more debt and make higher education a risky investment." First starting out in a business one might have some debt, if they take out loans, but as their business grows they will be able to pay it off. People will have more time to accomplish their goals. Getting a degree takes 4 years and if someone wants a higher one it will take longer. In those 4 years a person's business can so much and they will already have a job. Starting a business will help one become more knowledge and understand real life problems. Get a job. If a person does not want to start a business they can get a job. There are many well paying jobs out there that do not require a degree. Jobs a person can get with a high school diploma are a food services manager, mechanic, insurance agent, and many more. If a person already has a job in high school and they work hard, then the employer might not want to let them go. "Students who worked part–time during high school might be able to stay with the same employer on a full–time basis and with higher pay" (Johnson). Sometimes, when getting a job it does not matter what type of degree one has, it is about how hard they are willing to work to get it done. "Labor market is not between those with more or less education, but between those services can be delivered" (Crawford). Someone can get a career job they been wanting right out of high school, ... • 6. The Importance Of My Life After High School As a young girl being the daughter of two Mexican immigrants, who came to this country to seek for a better life for them and for their children. My main goal after graduating high school is to continue my education no matter what. As a young little girl my dream was to become a ob/gyn. Growing up was a little rough my parents got separated and my father left us leaving my mom as our only support system for my siblings and I. The only person as my father figure was my two oldest brothers who always encouraged me to do my best in school. Growing up into a young lady I still held onto that dream, going into high school my freshman year I still knew that I wanted to be a ob/gyn. During my freshman year I didn't do so hot in school, so I knew that during my sophomore year of high school I had to step up my game. On the very first day of school of my sophomore year my English teacher made us write three goals on a piece of paper that we wanted to accomplish by the end of the year or accomplish in life over all. I wrote my three goals down which were, to pass all my classes and finals with good grades, to become a doctor, and to continue my education after high school no matter what. As the end of my sophomore year approached I was very proud of myself for having good grades. So all the way up to my senior year in high school I made a promise to myself to continue working hard for what I wanted in life and to keep striving for excellence in school and sports. • 7. Life After High School Life after high school can be one of the most difficult decisions in your life. And it is not just one decision, the college you choose can alter many aspects of your life. When you attempt to choose a school to go to you have to take into consideration many things. You have to know the major you want to go for, the minors, location, tuition cost, et cetera. I have so many options for the next step in my life. For this paper, however, I have narrowed it down to two options: Miami University and the University of Cincinnati. It is a close race between the two, but based on my recent visit to Miami going there for college would be the better option for my future. Money is an issue for mostly all college students, everyone is always worried about the debt they will obtain by going through schooling and how they are going to pay it off. Unless someone can get a full ride scholarship, you are going to have to owe money to the university you go to. My solution is that I will be making enough money after college to pay it off pretty quickly so I do not have to owe too much money throughout my life. Miami tuition is around $15,000 and room and board is around $13,000 so the total is somewhere close to $28,000 ("2017 Cohort"). Cincinnati tuition is $11,000 and room and board can be from $11,000 to $13,000, so between $22,000 and $24,000 would be the total ("UC Facts"). I intend to get scholarships through various companies or associations to bring the total price per year down. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Being Unprepared For Life After High School Public schools help students become prepared for society until the day they graduate from high school. Over the years, students do not continue since they do not feel that they are prepared for college and decided to earn a low–paying job instead. Therefore, more students are either dropping out of high school or not attempting to enroll in college to improve their education. From my experience, as a student myself, I can relate to the impression of being unprepared for life after high school. During my high school years, many teachers do not clarify the lesson and expect students to understand the materials by a certain time. Learning only half a chapter and must learned two chapters by the next day. Some schools, however, only cover subjects ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Greasy Lake And Life After High School In both "Greasy Lake" and "Life After High School" the protagonists are both subjected to external conflict that forever changes their course in life. With so much emphasis on the differences between individuals these days, it is imperative that people recognize this powerful commonality between the spectrum of humanity. Two completely different people living completely different lives are somehow still directly linked through the intrinsic nature of life. Even though the narrator from "Greasy Lake", Joe as he will be called from simplicity sake and Sunny from "Life After High School" are separated by gender and culture, both share the commonality of a metamorphosis as the direct result of an external conflict. Regardless of the shape or appearance of this metamorphosis, I purpose that both Joe and Sunny are of the same element that only differ in structure and appearance due to the differences in both the stimuli and base parameters in their life. In this case, Sunny and joe's base parameters or starting points differ quite a bit. Joe is a greaser working on meeting the criteria and trying to live up to the name. He had the look and behavior down pat, wearing "torn up leather jackets," and "striking elaborate poses" to show people he doesn't give a damn. Yet, he is still largely an innocent adolescent just trying to find his way in the world. Sunny on the other hand was a cheerleader and the light that her name implies. • 10. Life After High School Is Full Of Uncertainty Life after high school is full of uncertainty. There are many different paths that one can take like going straight into the workforce, joining the military, or attending college. Picking one of these paths was easy for me; I am positive that I want to go to college. However, deciding which college to go to is a seemingly impossible decision. Not only do I have to figure out which college is the best academic fit, but I also decide which track program suites me best. There are a lot of different factors to consider, and after looking into many schools, I have my choices narrowed down to the Ohio State University or the University of Akron. If I had to make my decision right now, with all the information I have about the University of Akron and the Ohio State University, I would have to go with Akron. When considering colleges, the cost of tuition tends to be the elephant in the room. It's no secret that a higher education comes at a great cost. If students aren 't careful, they can find themselves drowning in student loans for many years after they graduate. Applying for scholarships and financial aid are great ways to lessen and manage this debt. Fortunately for me, I have the opportunity to go to Akron without paying a penny. The full ride that they're offering me for tack is a huge factor to think about when deciding which college I want to go to. Ohio State, on the other hand, has not offered me any scholarships to this date. I'm waiting to go on my official visit to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Personal Narrative: Life After High School "Life's never going to get simpler than being a teenager living with your mom. The world is yours for the taking and now all you have to do is seize the future with your head held up and your heart set toward the goal." My mother told me this after I got the call from Chuck E. Cheeses asking when I could start the job. I would work thirty hours a week after holding coworkers shifts, while desperately trying to keep my grasp on a secure, successful education. I got another job at McAlister's Deli working doubles every Saturday and Sunday; stayed up on school nights after work just to try and scrabble up a homework assignment, then I knew this couldn't be my life after high school which pushed me to add some major modifications towards my high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Young, immature, and unaware of what the future would have in store for me after graduation. During this time in my life, I just expected things to come to me as if I didn't need to put forth the effort to make it in life. I would have never thought that the procedures to get into college would be so ambiguous, and the fact that I went to a college preparatory school gave me the mindset that going to college would be simple. My grades in my underclassman career were without a doubt atrocious for my capabilities. I had a bad habit of procrastination and an awful attitude that caused me to be passive about anything that had happened. Since I go to a small school it's never been hard for the staff to notice when a student doesn't seem to have everything going convenient in their lives. I was pulled to the side by our dean of students one day and of course like any normal student I started thinking worst case scenario as if I had done any questionably bad acts that week. • 12. Narrative Essay On Life After High School As a two year old, I wasn't able to talk my father out of suicide. My background isn't the most typical, and it's quite astonishing to be where I am. I may not be the top in my class, but my background is what makes me unique. I lost my father at a very young age and my mother moved us around often, one abusive boyfriend after another. The one thing I never let go of is my love of people. Although I grew up around domestic violence, I knew when I grew up I'd help people. Today, I'm in that place to decide, and I still value that. Hearing and seeing my mom getting hit every night scared me. I never knew what I'd wake up to. Feeling constantly anxious took a toll on me, and I stopped doing my work in school. I saw my grades and life slipping. Luckily for me, I was sent into foster care. Living with a complete stranger in a new place isn't the most wanted situation, but anything was better than that. I promised myself that high school was going to be different; I was going to pass and care about my grades, so that later I can help others. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My application would be incomplete without my story because it's why I'm applying to college. It's why I'm here right now, today. I never thought I'd make it this far, and sitting here today is my biggest accomplishment yet. I know in college I will continue to work hard and move forward no matter what. • 13. Life After High School "And, beyond money, education seems to make people happier and healthier." (David). Back in the day every parent wanted to their child to go to college and get the education they needed. Now a days the topic is do kids even need to attend college after graduating high school. Some people think college cost to much, but after any education is college the boss will pay more and some say college is worth the investment. After any college education people look at your differently, especially a future boss. The people that go to college after graduation can get paid way more in a job than people that only have a highschool diploma. The degree somebody gets in college looks great applying for a job in the future, and there is no doubt the pay can be higher in the job after going to college. The amount of education someone has can depend on the amount of money made in a job, "Three decades ago, full time workers with a bachelor's degree made 40 percent more than those with only a highschool diploma." (David). This proves college pays off, however, it can be a handful of money for college. Just imagine the investment that is made when making more money on a job later down the road. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can be very difficult to get into college, and even more difficult to pay your way. Students loans can add up and debt can be a huge problem. • 15. Life After High School Character Analysis High school: a place of acceptance, growth, and love. Life After High School by Joyce Carol Oates takes place in the small town of South Lebanon, New York in 1959. Oates details the lives of three students: Zachary Graff, Barbara "Sunny" Burhrman, and Tobias Shank. Zachary struggles with finding love; both Sunny and Tobias turn him down during the rough times of the 1950's, and Zachary's struggle ultimately leads to his death. Throughout the stories the three characters mask themselves behind a happier and fitter version of themselves; the hide behind religion, lies, and stereotypes. Oates writes in a third person limited point of view to reveal the theme of hiding one's identity is destructive. Oates creates a perspective of literary fiction to reveal the emotion of what the characters feel, think, and act. Through a third person limited point of view, Oates exposes the mental and emotional struggles the characters face in Life AfterHigh School; and their growth while overcoming the challenges faced. The short story is written through Sunny, a dynamic character; whatever she knows, we also know. Sunny is described as sweet and kind with an "astonishing smile" which implies how she got her name. Sunny symbolizes the stereotypical high school student, "popular, confident, good–looking, club officer, prom queen" (574) To her classmates she's is seen as the "All American girl too good to be true who is nonetheless TRUE" (577) Although Sunny represents an all American girl; she ... • 16. Life After High School Essay Life after high school comes with a lot of important decisions. The large cost of a college degree and the increasingly competitive job market have both added to the stress of this decision. The decision to go to college is one of the most important choices of a student 's life, and it can affect their careers and finances for the rest of their lives. These days, the rising cost of college is making students have to decide between the large sum of debt associated with a college degree or joining the workforce with a lower salary. Despite this fact, getting a college degree of some sort is worth the debt due to benefits like a larger salary that follow later in life. Students that receive a college degree make more than their high school graduate counterparts. "Among millennials ages 25 to 32, median annual earnings for full–time working college–degree holders are $17,500 greater than for those with high school diplomas only" (Kurtzleben, 1). Students that have received a college diploma have had a higher income that will help them pay off their debt. When all of their debt is gone, that extra money will give them a financial advantage because they will be making so much more. Graph 1 shows the difference in the levels of a person's education compared to their income. The graph shows that the higher the education the higher their income within the last 40 years. Especially since 2000, the average wage of a worker with a bachelor's degree has risen from $60,000 a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a kid I was obsessed with building Legos but not with directions. Figuring out how to put it together without directions was a challenge but all that more satisfying. I also enjoyed tinkering with anything I could get my hands on, from toys to mechanisms. Throughout my life I have experienced many different events that have altered my thinking and aspirations for the future. Teaching myself andlearning from others was the only way to get here today. My interest has always been in building but I never knew exactly what I wanted to specialize in. In 2012, I joined FIRST Robotics Competition Team 3229 Hawktimus Prime located at Holly Springs High School. I spent the first year observing and learning so that I would know what I needed to do in years to come. The next year was a slow start but towards the end there was some kind of awakening within me. • 19. My Life After High School In February during the finales months of my senior year in high school, I began to start thinking about my life after high school. I had no idea of what I wanted to be in life. I knew I had liked arguing with people and standing up for what I believe. Then one day, I was watching one of my favorite movies "Legally Blonde". A brief summary of the movie is that it is about a "dumb blonde' girl who gets the opportunity of a lifetime to become a lawyer by attending Harvard Law School. In the beginning, she was lost but somehow turns everything around and proves to the world that blondes are smart, and that you can do anything if you have faith in yourself. After watching this movie, a light bulb had lit up in my head, and I knew what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to be a lawyer. I was unaware on the steps it took to be a Lawyer, so I asked my teacher about what I should major in to become one. She told me to major in political science. I had never heard this word before so I researches it to find more about it. When researching something its best to find the definition to give you an overall idea, so you can form your own viewpoint of it. When I looked up Political Science I found the word "Politics" being a big influence about it, and that's when I became interested in politics. Webster's Dictionary had defined politics as "activities that relate to influencing the actions and policies of a government or getting and keeping power in a government," but my view of ... Starting high school was a big change in my life and was a step in the direction of young adulthood. As individuals around me attempted to navigate down that similar path I gained a crisp taste of my identity. All of a sudden what was once a long distance future evolved into the near future as high school years passed and a test of my character was close at hand. I had to start thinking about college, my future, and who I really wanted to be. When a reality check was brought upon me I began realizing that I am the only one that can determine my future, and that numerous factors in my control will be responsible for how my goals and ambitions are pursued. In addition to that, the choices that I choose to make in the next few years will determine how my life plays out. Slowly but surely I began realizing I also began realizing that the people around me won 't always have the same intelligence, ambitions, and goals that I do but, choosing to use that as a driving force towards success is the only option I seem to have left. Due to me becoming a teen parent I received various levels of support from my family, teachers, and the little friends I did have. • 25. Life After High School Essay High school is a time of stress and anxiety. This not only includes school work and social life, but the school system plays as tremendous of a part in it as the student himself. People complain, "the school system does nothing to prepare students for tests, school work etc." or "school is being forced upon us, why even go?". These issues not only change the way students act, but the way they affect society. School readiness is a major concept in why students do not attend school. The bridge to prepare them is simply not there. This does not necessarily apply with life after high school, but life in high school. Healthy or not, students always focus on grades, they rely on teachers to prepare them for tests, homework etc., to receive satisfying grades. Yet, the teachers and the school system do nothing to help. According to source E, written by Floyd Norris, the United States fell in the bottom half in the comparison of mathematical skills shown by fifteen year olds. Something has to be missing, right? All students, parents, and even the school board wants is to notice students receive better grades, for what?, the sake of a percentage or ranking? This should not be the factor of a student's success. In the graph depicted in source E the United States, ranking, worldwide, is the twenty eighth with ten percent of students in the top and twenty five point seven percent of students in the bottom. Or do we just think about how we improve ourselves personally? The steps a person takes through high school and after graduation is one of the most important steps one person can take in their life. but each individual person has different routes they wish to attend, most people will proceed in the direction towards progress and the two most common ways of progress that a person's route leads them down is either working after high school or going to further their education in college. For the past few years the conversation has stuck around that weather or not college is the basic success plan for our future. • 36. The Pros And Cons Of Life After High School High school. We have all been there. Four years of our life (maybe more for some) that we will never get back. Some may have enjoyed every second those four years and others may have dreaded every single second they walked in those doors. High school is a time and place where you sit in class for seven hours a day are lectured about needless topics. Education is a very important time in ours lives, however, there are ways we could spend our education making it more useful so we are better prepared for the future. Most students think about graduating from high school from the very beginning, thinking that they will be well prepared and ready to take on the real world. They think that is is going to be totally different from grade school and they will have the options to take whatever classes they want that they feel are needed to be a successful adult but, little do they know that most of their time will be spent on frivolous classes. In Laura Moser's article about being prepared for life after high school, she says, "according to one study, only 8 percent of recent graduates have taken a "foundational set of course they'd need to be both college– and career–ready." • 37. Analysis Of Life After High School The essay 'Life After High School" by Annie Murphy Paul is about the effect of a persons high school experience on what they do later in life. Paul had been asked to be the commencement speaker at her old high schools graduation which made her wonder if our high school experience determines who people become as adults. To see both sides of the argument Paul interviewed some experts and read studies on the topic. Some of the research has shown that there some truth to the idea that high school has the ability to shape who we will become in the future. This includes research taken from the Wisconsin Longitudinal study, which is one of the largest and longest–running research project on the effect of high school. For example that jocks are in ... Another rhetorical device used in the essay is a simile when talking about the possible impact of high school as it is either lasting or "faded as an orchid corsage." This was a excellent use of a simile as it creates the comparison of a flower slowly diving to the impact of high school. This allows the reader to understand how high schools impact on your life slowly becomes smaller as the years pass after graduation. Paul also uses rhetorical questions to enhance her writing. When trying to convince the reader that your high school experience does not need to but limits on you life she uses a rhetorical question "who, after all would have predicted that a long–haired loner like Bruce Springsteen from Freehold High School in New Jersey would become the Boss?" Everyone knows the answer to the question but, it is able to show how no one really knows what will happen to you after high school. Just like Bruce Springsteen who no one ever thought he would become a famous rock star. Sarcasm was also a literary device used by Paul. By stating Kurt Vonnegut Jr. writing on our cultures obsession with high school is more unnerving than "the firebombing of Dresden and the aftermath of the Vietnam war." A war is much more unnerving then a popular culture obsession but, it is able to show how much high school still influences people. With the use of literary devices Paul was ... • 39. Theme Of Life After High School "Life After High School" by Joyce Carol Oates is a brilliant demonstration of the tragedy that follows when individuals refuse to be true to themselves. Perhaps, if she had been true to herself, it would've given Zachary the necessary motivation to be true to himself. Even as Zachary proposes, Sunny doesn't let her true feelings show; she simply says she cannot marry him.
