What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
   constructing this product?
      Media Evaluation Part 6
Macs
Macs have been one of my main sources of technology for making
my magazine, as they are what we used at school however,
because I do not have one at home it has been hard transferring
work as the macs have different programs than my windows
laptop has. It may not sound hard to figure out how to use them
but, it is harder than it sounds. I mainly used the macs to carry out
my research and planning of my magazine, but used my own
laptop to actually create my magazine and evaluations. The further
I got in my coursework, the easier I found the macs to use.
Camera’s
To take my photos I used different camera’s the one at school and
the one at home. The one at home was a lot easier to use and
easier to transfer my photo’s. The one I used at school was a lot
harder as it was more advanced and as only 1 mac had a slot of
the memory card, it took much longer to get the photos as most of
the time that mac was being used. The camera used at school was
the canon eos 350d camera and the one at home was the
Samsung wb550. Overall, the Samsung wb550 was harder to use
however, it had a variety of zooms and settings which meant that
the picture quality was superbly better.
Microsoft Word
I used Microsoft word to create my entire magazine, because I
found Picnic very hard to use. Word was a lot easier to use
because I could get a white background which was very
conventional, and I couldn’t do that on picnic. However, it didn’t
create as much a professional look as my magazine would have if
it had been created on a program like publisher. Also, it was quite
hard to crop my images and get them onto my blog. In the end I
managed to do it. Word was easy as well for shapes and they had
a variety to choose from. In the future I would use a different
program to create my magazine so it looked more professional.
Blogger
Blogger was the piece of technology that I used most often, but
before this coursework I had never used it before. It was where I
posted my research, planning, final product and all my
evaluations. At first I found blogger quite difficult to use because
you have to layout everything clearly so the moderator can read it.
However, as I used the program more often it got much easier to
use, so I was on it more often, and updating more posts. I have
also learnt how to edit posts in so they are in order
chronologically.
The Internet
The internet was my most used source to find out all the
information on current magazines as well as my information on
finding out what is conventional for magazines so I could create
mine. Google was my main source and I learnt that this search
engine was the one that had the best and most results on it.
Google was the best search engine for me as it gave me the best
and quickest results for my research. I also used Google images
to find my style models for my magazine and Google images had
many different options for me to pick from.
Slideshare
I had to use www.slideshare.com on several occasions, to create
PowerPoint presentations via Slideshare to my blog. I didn’t find
this website the easiest to use as it involves a lot of steps to
upload a video to your blog, however because I had to repeat this
step several times I got use to using the website so it did
gradually get easier. Again, I had never used Slideshare before but
I am now going to carry on using it in future coursework pieces.
