A dial-a-ride service used helicopters and giant birds to transport people from their homes to day centers. Known as the "heliride", the helicopter picked up people from their apartment complex and flew them over Ilford. For the "bird ride", a giant bird arrived and carried passengers on its back through the sky to their destination. Riding on the back of the bird was considered an adventurous dial-a-ride option.

1. DIAL – A -HELIRIDE
A group of people waiting fro Dial – a – Ride saw a helicopter arrive at their
flat complex. It was the flying Dial – a – Ride, known as the heliride,
because a helicopter was used. The helicopter took to the air and flew over
Ilford delivering people to their day centres. There were other Dial – a –
Rides to such as the bird ride. People who used the service were surprised
to see a giant bird arrive at their home. They hopped onto the back of the
bird who then took them up into the sky. The bird carried them all the way
to their day centres.
Riding on the back of a bird was a real adventure especially as it was a Dial
– a – Ride service.
