American Brain Tumor Association.
For more than 40 years, the American Brain Tumor
Association has focused on brain tumor research.
Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, this group raises
awareness and money for diagnosing and treating
brain tumors as well as for improving the quality of
life for individuals with the condition and their loved
ones. Moreover, it features a Scientific Advisory
Council that advises the main Board of Directors on
how to direct its resources.
3. About CareLine
CareLine accounts for one of the ABTA's most
important programs. The organization's Senior
Program Manager Jillann Demes recognizes that
"caregivers often put themselves last,” which leads to
significant stress and the feeling that “things are
spiraling out of control.” This resource allows them to
talk to another person who understands the
difficulties they face and who can provide support
and guidance. Other offerings of CareLine include
access to relevant local groups, ways to connect
one's brain tumor patient with individuals with similar
diagnoses, and aid in understanding the healthcare
process. To contact CareLine, call 800-886-ABTA
(2282) or log on to www.abta.org for more
information about this group and its initiatives.
