2. Cold joint cutting is done precisely and there is no rubber flowing which means any
gap could lead to poor joint. The ples are buffed using an emery grinder making the
surface little rough. The surface is cleaned using a wire brush and the solution is
applied on both sides and left for about 15 minutes to dry (the drying time varies
depending on the product). Two coats are required for the belts of small size but for
larger belts 3 coats may be necessary. Once the third coat is applied, wait for 10
minutes before joining the surface. Hammer with a high impact hammer across the
joint portion. The process is vital and creates an everlasting bond. The joint strength
will keep increasing with the time.
Some of the precautions to maintain while administrating a cold joint is to ensure
removal of grease, oil and water. The cold solution is highly inflammable, so keep
away from the flame. Keep the cold solution in a cool and dry place to ensure its
longevity.
