Dotted Notes
Yep, yet more note values to learn!
The good news is these are pretty
easy.

You might have noticed some gaps in
the the notes we’ve learned so far –
we know 1 beat, 2 beats, 4 beats etc
but where did 3 beats go? And what
about 1½, ¾ and all the rest?

Well, you just take the shapes you
know already and add a dot and voila,
they gain half their value again.
Let’s see how this works...
So, if = 2 beats,

         = 3 beats
And if = 1 beat,

         = 1½ beats
= ¾ beat = +

= 3/8 beat = +

                       ...etc
The same applies for rests:

        = 3 beat rest = +

        = 1½ beat rest = +

         = ¾ beat rest = +
= 3/8 beat rest = +

Got the idea? Time to find out!
