1. History of Sub Genre
Teen pop is a sub genre of pop music that is created, marketed and oriented towards
pre teens and teenagers. It copies genres and styles such as: Pop, R and B, Hip
Hop, Country and Rock. Teen-oriented popular music had become common by the
end of the swing era, in the late 1940’s with Frank Sinatra being an early teen idol.
21st Century
Since the mid 2000’s, many teen stars have developed careers through their
involvement with Disney, like singer songwriters, Miley Cyrus, Demi
Lovato, Selena Gomez and the Jonas brothers.
Typical characteristics of Teen pop:
• Auto tuned vocals
• Choreographed dancing
• Emphasis on Visual appeal (photogenic faces)
• Attended hair and designer clothes.
