3. IMPORTANCE OF CMS:
HMI provides easy access of data.
PLC I/Os can be monitored as just “ok” or “fault”.
Provide friendly interface between PLC I/Os and Users.
Reduce brake down.
Help to increase availability of Crane.
Easy troubleshooting by visual screens.
Helpful during corrective and preventive maintenance.
CMS can run independent of Step7 software.
CRANE MONITORING SYSTEM 3
4. CRANE WITHOUT CMS:
No quick access to PLC I/Os.
Difficult for new engineers to trace fault.
Joystick position can not be monitored.
Voltage / Current graph can not be observed.
Troubleshooting time increase.
Increase break down time.

5. CMS PROJECT PLANNING & WORK FLOW
Software Requirements / Selection
Windows 7 Professional 32bit with SP1
LABVIEW 32bit V16.0
NI OPC Server 2016
LabView 2016 with DSC Module
From National Instruments (NI)

6. CMS PROJECT PLANNING & WORK FLOW
○ Configuration of OPC Server 2016
Configure channel name as “STS”.
Assigning device driver as “Siemens TCP/IP Ethernet”
Assigning IP address of computer in network adapter.
Configure PLC.
Assigning PLC model as S7 400.
Assigning PLC IP address.
Insert Step 7 project file address.

7. CMS PROJECT PLANNING & WORK FLOW
o Selecting I/Os & Alarms Address:
Compile all important I/Os & alarms address which need to be monitored.
Arrange all I/Os address in different tags group.
Assign all I/Os and alarm in different tag group of OPC Server 2016.
Make OPC Server 2016 in Run Time.

9. CMS PROJECT PLANNING & WORK FLOW
LabView Work:
1- LabView Project Explorer
○ Create a project file.
○ Create I/O SERVER in project.
○ Assign computer in the field of machine name.
○ Select NI OPC server.
○ Create libraries for all tags assigned in OPC Server 2016.
○ Create shared variables for all I/Os address in libraries.
○ Call all tags from OPC to LabView libraries.

2- Designing Front Panel:
o Using Tab control to make different tabs for each section of
crane like, hoisting, trolley gantry etc.
o All I/Os and indicators were designed in each tab.
o Some control were design to display hoist trolley and boom
position.

12. CMS PROJECT PLANNING & WORK FLOW
3-Coding:
o Terminal of each variables were connected with its
corresponding variable from LabView project explorer.
o Make sure to present each variable in its same tab where its
indicator are present in front panel.
o Some data type had to change in order to give user selection
from front panel.

31. OVERVIEW OF CMS PROJECT:
Status of Hoist, Trolley, Gantry and Boom can be view on each single page.
At any instant of time hoist, trolley and boom position can be viewed visually
and numerically.
Display of wind speed.
Display of container weight.
Display of hoisting, Trolley, Gantry and Boom speed.
Display of joystick position.
Display of Hoist, Trolley and Gantry reference to drive.
Display of all slow down.

32. ADVANTAGE OF IN-HOUSE CMS PROJECT DESIGN:
○ Easy to add, delete or edit any data in CMS.
○ Any new features of software can be implemented easly.
○ Not bound to designer.
○ Easy to understand for new engineers and technicians.
○ Fault can be diagnosed without step 7 software.
CRANE MONITORING SYSTEM 32
33. FUTURE ENHANCEMENT IN CMS PROJECT:
To monitor CMS from remote location.
CMS of any crane will be able to monitor from any other crane.
