This document provides the label and directions for use of Neo-Stop 300 HN, a sprout inhibitor containing chlorpropham to be applied as a hot fog to stored potatoes. It can be applied up to 4 times at a maximum of 120 ml per tonne of potatoes to prevent sprouting for up to 2 days before removal from storage. Protective equipment should be worn during application and re-entry to treated areas is restricted for 24 hours. The product is harmful, dangerous for the environment, and its use is regulated to limit residues on potatoes and discharges to water.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
IMPORTANT: This information is approved as part of the Product Label. All instructions within this section must be read carefully in
order to obtain safe and successful use of this product.
RESTRICTIONS OR WARNINGS
• DO NOT USE on seed potatoes.
• If the total dose applied (from any combination of products containing chlorpropham) is greater than 36g
chlorpropham/tonne, then treated potatoes must only be used for commercial processing.
• In any case the total dose applied (from any combination of products containing chlorpropham) to a stored potato crop
must not exceed 63.75 g chlorpropham/tonne.
• The use of this product on ware potatoes is subject to discharges of chlorpropham into receiving waters from plants
washing treated potatoes being within emission limits set by the UK monitoring authority.
• DO NOT fog potatoes with a high level of skin spot.
• DO NOT use Neo Stop 300 HN on potatoes stored in Graves, 'Dickie Pie' or modified 'Dickie Pie' type stores. When treating
potatoes in bulk stores by this method, sprout control may be poor in the top 30 cm of the store.
• It is VERY IMPORTANT to ensure that the air circulates gently (no more than a flickering match above the uppermost layers),
freely (no clods or debris amongst the potatoes) and uniformly through the stacks or boxes.
• Blockage of air spaces between the tubers prevents adequate circulation of vapour with consequent loss of treatment efficacy.
• When applied immediately after harvest, sprout inhibitors based on chlorpropham (CIPC) may cause skin damage to potatoes which
are sensitive and/or insufficiently cured. In addition, slower wound healing will increase the risk of infection with storage diseases.
Under climatic conditions favourable to these diseases, this can result in an increase in damage during storage and loss of quality.
Do not treat potatoes sensitive to skin damage (e.g.‘thin-skinned varieties’) and/or storage diseases until after the curing period.
• Seed crops of any type must not be stored in buildings in which potatoes are being treated. There is also a risk of damage to
propagating material (seeds, tubers, runners, etc.) which is handled or stored in buildings or boxes previously treated. This applies
to seed potatoes, malting barley, seed grains, grass seed, ALL other seed crops and plant material for propagation such as
raspberry canes. Any commodity handled or stored in previously treated boxes or stores may also become contaminated leading
to an exceedance of the maximum residue level (MRL).
• The maximum permitted residue level (MRL) for chlorpropham in potato tubers is 10ppm.
• Do not sell treated potatoes for consumption or processing for at least 2 days after the final application.
Crop
To be used only on potatoes intended for consumption. Consult processors before using on potatoes destined for processing.
Do not treat potatoes until after the curing period. Thin skinned varieties and those with storage diseases are particularly sensitive
to premature treatment
Potatoes should be clean, dry and free from signs of disease.Ensure skin is sufficiently cured before treatment.Daily crop inspection
is essential to check curing and onset of sprouting.
For best results, treat before the eyes have opened.
Use only in stores with forced air/ducted ventilation to ensure uniform air flow and to avoid blockage of air spaces between the tubers
which can impede efficacy of the product and lead to a build up of condensation.
Rate of Application
Apply 40 ml of product per tonne of potatoes after curing, followed by 3 applications of 26.7 ml of product per tonne every 2 to 3
months. Regular crop inspections should be made to identify when repeat applications are required (i.e. onset of sprouting). The
maximum total dose of 120 ml of product (36g CIPC) per tonne of potatoes must not be exceeded.
A 28 day interval must be observed between applications.
The frequency of application is dependent on the variety of potato and susceptibility to sprouting. Consult your processor for
guidance on number of applications and effects on fry colour. Grower advice on the use of CIPC is available from The Potato
Council.
Potatoes for processing
Darker fry colour has been linked to increased frequency of ‘hot fog’ application. Stored crops destined for crisp or chip production
should be treated with the minimum number of applications where a light fry colour is required
Application Method
Neo Stop 300 HN is a ready to use product to be applied using suitable thermal fogging equipment. Follow the manufacturer’s
instructions when using this type of machine.
Fogging should ideally be carried out with the fogging machine outside the warehouse with the fog being fed into the store through
a treatment port or other secure means. Only stores dedicated for potato storage should be treated.
A forced air ventilation system should be in place to allow distribution of the fog through the potatoes and to avoid the build up of
condensation. All other external vents and doors should be closed during treatment to ensure the store is airtight. It is very important
to maintain a gentle flow of air during treatment.
Ventilate the treated store thoroughly with fresh outside air once the fog has cleared and the product has settled, usually 6-8 hours
after application.
Unprotected persons should be kept out of treated areas for a minimum of 24 hours.
Company Advisory Information
Store Design
For potatoes stored in boxes should be stacked no more than 5m high with the pallet slots aligned to allow a uniform distribution of
the fog. Stores should be filled as quickly as possible after harvest to allow the first application to be made as soon as the potatoes
are dry and sufficiently cured. In cases where store filling takes a number of weeks, consider sub-division of larger stores.
For further advice on store design, ventilation and current best practise, consult The Potato Council’s latest Grower Advice Sheets
for CIPC applications.
Application Advice
Do not leave the fogger unattended during application.
The engine of fogging generators produces considerable heat during operation. Care should therefore be taken to avoid contact with
flammable/combustible materials (e.g. straw, plastics, paper or wood).
The fog generator should have a mechanism which ensures that delivery of the product will cease if for any reason the motor stops
(e.g. due to lack of fuel). Otherwise the lack of air flow could cause the product to burn on contact with hot surfaces.
The fog generated should not be directed directly into an air duct in order to avoid loss of the product onto the walls and fans. Instead
it should be directed into an open area where it can be circulated before being drawn up by the ventilators.
During application switch off lighting or any other electrical apparatus in the store (except the ventilators themselves) until the fog
has settled.
