3. INDUSTRIAL TRENDS OF ERP
HERE ARE SOME OF THE ERP INDUSTRY TRENDS TO LOOK
Prediction analysis
Data has been part of ERP for a long time, but it
has largely been used to report the status of things
that have already occurred.
However, with advances in data analysis and
business intelligence, predictive data is becoming
popularly used to forecast future trends as well.
Data is only really valuable to a company when it’s
used for something:
by analyzing data to better understand the past or
predict the future, businesses are equipped to
make well-informed decisions for success.
Cloud ERP
The cloud has made ERPs more accessible, so that
you’re no longer chained to your desk, and you can
get the information you want while on the go.
Some ERPs exist only on the cloud (for example,
web-based ERPs), but many companies choose to
use traditional ERPs that are simply hosted on the
cloud for easy access; this allows companies to
continue using their preferred ERPs, but with the
freedoms that cloud functionality offers. Some
ERPs have a hybrid offering of cloud and non-
cloud services.
4. INDUSTRIAL TRENDS OF ERP
HERE ARE SOME OF THE ERP INDUSTRY TRENDS TO LOOK
Customization
Enterprises creating systems outside of the ERP
to handle their unique business needs (which
somewhat defeats the purpose of the ERP as an
integrated system).
ERPs becoming more flexible with
customizations, and connection of outside
applications into the ERP.
IoT (Internet of Things)
he Internet of Things has become a part of
everyday life from your Fitbit linking to your
computer to record your exercise for the day, to
security systems that are hooked up to the
Internet and send notifications to your phone.
IoT has plenty of potential for application in the
ERP industry as well

6. ERP AND SAAS
ERP and SaaS
Traditional ERP applications are stored on your servers,
which means you're responsible for upfront hardware
costs, long-term hardware maintenance and expansion,
and data backup and recovery. SaaS-based apps are
stored on cloud-based servers, which are much less
expensive, much quicker to update and scale, and don't
take up any valuable office space.
This difference can mean a
savings of thousands of dollars
in terms of total cost of
ownership (TCO).

7. SAAS-ONLY AND MIXED ERP OPTIONS
ERP tool works perfectly but you'd like to add document management and
CRM to the mix (without having to purchase additional hardware), then you
can plug SaaS modules on top of your existing ERP.
This is becoming a more popular option for users, especially as more
business IT becomes cloud-based. Make sure to speak to your current
vendor or potential vendors to find out if this is an option.
8. ERP FOR THE SUBSIDIARY
In speaking with ERP vendors, Forrester has determined that enterprises that have historically relied on
on-premises ERP are now deploying SaaS-based tools incrementally through the enterprise.
Rather than replace ERP whole-hog, large companies are choosing one slice of the business and
plugging in SaaS ERP on a trial basis.
This approach gives businesses the opportunity to monitor SaaS ERP performance to determine how
it might fit into the existing on-premises ERP implementation, or whether it should replace on-
premises ERP throughout the entire organization.
9. COMPETITION FROM DISRUPTORS
As I mentioned in my introduction, the ERP behemoths that have traditionally dominated the industry
are facing stiff competition for SaaS-only startups.
Companies such as Financial Force (which was founded in 2009 and already has more than 1,300 ERP
customers) and Kenandy(founded in 2010) are building solutions on the Salesforce App Cloud to make
their solutions more appealing to users of the most popular CRM and sales automation tool.

10. TRENDS FOR WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE AND
INVENTORY MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE
Increase the size of your carts to increase
picking efficiency
According to Logistics
Management, one of the latest
trends is picking multiple orders
at one time with a single cart.
Cross-docking
Are you looking to reduce handling
times and gain significant
improvements in efficiency? Cross-
docking may be one strategy that can
help you achieve this because it helps to
reduce the amount of time products
spend in limbo between suppliers and
customers.

12. MICROFINANCE ERP SOFTWARE
Two-tiered ERP
The name must make it abundantly clear what this new trend is
about. If it is still unclear, then it refers to an arrangement, in which
the headquarters of a company uses one Enterprise Resource
Planning system while a subsidiary at a different location uses
another.
It is a beneficial arrangement especially for enterprises that may be
running different processes at different places. Two-tiered ERP
arrangements meet the needs of all locations with a better cost
structure. If we listen to what the industry experts say about this new
trend, then it’s best to go with smaller systems instead of having a big
system in place for cost reduction.
