2. Cheilitis is actually the inflammation of lips. It
may include the perioral skin, the vermilion
border and or the labial mucosa.
Most of the times, the skin and the vermilion
border are more commonly involved, since
the mucosa is less affected by inflammatory
and allergic reactions.
It is a very general term, and there are
many different causes and many different
and unique types of cheilitis.
3. Cheilitis can in some cases be acute or very
chronic. The most common cause of cheilitis is
usually caused by exogenous factors, which
may include dryness, chapping and acute sun
exposure.
The general approach to the treatment of
cheilitis glandularis is almost always based on
the diagnostic information which is taken from
histopathologic analysis, which is the
inddentification of the likely etiologic factors
which are responsible for the cheilitis, and
which attempts to alleviate or eradicate those
causes.
4. There are a relatively small number of
reported cases of cheilitis, very few
people get chronic cheilitis, so there is
neither sufficient nor reliable data exists
with regard to the cheilitis treatment.
And that is why the treatment for all
patients of cheilitis has to be dealt with
differently and it has to be depending on
the patient’s circumstance.
