Presentation Title: The Behavior Impact of DUI Laws and Sanctions Research Focus: Deterrence and Social Control Theories Abstract: Determining whether legal sanctions administered by the judicial court system or by local law enforcements are effectively designed to reduce, discourage and/or deter people from driving while impaired. There are various studies that provide conflicting arguments on whether driving laws have been a successful strategy in deterring drinking and driving behavior. Deterrence theories are based on the assumption that the perception and probability of certain severe punishment discourages people from illegal activities. Deterrence theory assumes that law breaking is inversely related to the severity of punishment. Further, it is the deterrence model ideology that law enforcement entities depend on to reduce DUI/DWI’s. The social control theory expands on the deterrence model to incorporate social influences. According to this theory drinking laws are only one of many factors that influence DUI behavior. Social stigma and perceived risk in committing the crime also play a part in discouraging this type of behavior. Although there has been little research conducted examining both deterrence and social control theories and the impact on DUI behavior proponents for these theories believe that innate makeup of these two ideologies are effective enough to modify a person’s .

Cybersecurity and Risk ManagementRESPOND TO THIS DISCUSSION 2 IN 150 WORDS The first article I found when I was browsing relating to risk management to cyber security paradigms will provide a useful backdrop for evaluating the current state of consumer protection in the cyber security environment. The initial paradigm for protecting ICT systems was based on a perimeter defense model. Security focused on tightly regulating the interchange of traffic between systems. Systems were kept closed by default and opened only by exception and under conditions of tight control. This approach to security matched operational norms at the time information systems were siloed these systems were not easily interoperable and thus did not generally exchange traffic. Under these conditions security risks were primarily internal rather than external. The Second article I noticed regarding cybersecurity is the adoption of a security by design principle and certification frameworks may make it easier to neglect individual users of the Internet in the ongoing efforts to improve cybersecurity. If security concerns can be abated by focusing efforts upstream, then there may be a perception that there is less need to worry about what consumers are doing downstream. The third article I found was the language used in many national cybersecurity strategies typically is robust, though non-specific. As the examples outlined above illustrate, there is a clear contemplation that individual consumers have a role to play in cybersecurity and possibly even public duties or responsibilities. Not but not least in the fourth article, I found that the program provides information about how home Internet users and small businesses can protect themselves online. It uses social media, a Web site, email alerts, and partnerships to deliver tips and information about cyber threats. Solution Recidivism is the act of relapsing into a problem or criminal behavior during or after receiving sanctions, or while undergoing an intervention due to a previous behavior or crime. In criminal justice settings, recidivism is often measured by criminal acts that result in rearrest, reconviction, or return to prison. Yes, these programs are effective in preventing recidivism. Recidivism data have been reported in terms of a variety of measures, including re-arrest, re-adjudication, and re- incarceration. As a result, policy makers are often unable to make sense of seemingly disparate findings or draw meaningful conclusions about program or system performance. Common definitions and indicators are necessary to clearly communicate the meaning of outcome study results, to unambiguously describe the methods used to obtain research findings, to enable replication of research designs, to make possible comparisons across studies and regions, and to facilitate our understanding of program or system effectiveness. By definition, recidivism comprises two elements: 1) the commission of an offense, 2) by an individual already known to have committed at least one other offense (Blumstein & Larson, 1971). To have a truly operable definition, one must clarify and qualify both parts. Regarding the first half of the definition, one must ask: What constitutes “commission of an offense?” Does the definition include status offenses? Would parole violations fall under the definition? One might assume that the phrase “commission of an offense” refers to a criminal act and thus excludes status offenses and parole violations. Consistency requires that the phrase “commission of an offense” be defined explicitly. For the second half of the definition, one must ask: Who is considered to be “an individual already known to have committed at least one other offense?” In the case of a juvenile, must the juvenile have been found guilty of an offense? If the juvenile had been arrested but diverted prior to adjudication, is she included in this definition? A policy maker might argue that diversion does not imply innocence; in fact, it implies or requires admission of guilt. Thus, if a youth who was previously diverted comes before the court on a subsequent offense, is that not recidivism? Evaluators must agree on uniform answers to these questions or their findings will be difficult to interpret or compare. Measuring Recidivism The terms “define” and “measure” are often confused by non-researchers. :The aim of the research is to examine the indirect and direct effects of social norms, general fairness and procedural fairness on tax compliance intentions in small and medium sized enterprises in the province of Bursa.The study group consists of 320 participants. 87.8% of participants were male and 44.7% participants were graduated secondary school. 64.7% participants were owner. We used Structural Equation Modeling for the data analysis. The results were X2 /df=1.880; GFI=0.82; CFI=0.90; RMSEA=0.05; SRMR=0.08. The goodness of fit provided evidence that the hypothesized model was stable. All estimated path coefficients were significant. Leadership and Ethics within Mandatory Minimum Prison Sentencing 1 Ethical behavior is critical when it comes to how society portrays one in terms of moral principles and ethics in a given situation. In general, ethical conduct is the practice of doing the right things by observing and adhering to professional standards. In most countries, the prison populations are on the rising end as most governments try to avoid the pressure in budgeting for the jails. The United States employs a sentencing structure whereby individuals are required to cover 85% of their sentences given by the federal court (Bedau 2014). This paper focuses on how ethical behaviors can impact mandatory minimum prison sentencing standards. Ethical concerns to be addressed The laws of mandatory minimum sentencing are the law that allows handing the minimum prison sentence for crimes such as possession of drugs. These laws are fixed and made by Congress, as judges cannot tamper with the laws (Oliss 2014). Critics have come out to say these laws are oppressive and do not apply in the present-day environment. One of the ethical concerns of the mandatory minimum sentencing laws needing to be addressed is the unfairness in passing out judgment. In a particular scenario whereby the judge does not have the capacity to amend the law during the trial, someone who was neither directly involved in drug conspiracy, nor a significant concern in the case, will end up suffering the same sentence that is passed onto the main suspect. This makes it difficult for the individual, who is rarely involved in being heard, in a different scenario as the law tends to punish them both harshly. The main disparity is this law tends to focus more on drug lords and the fight against crime as compared to other offenses that are committed (Martin 2017). The second ethical concern is these laws do not allow room for plea bargains. Since Congress makes the law, it is hard for the prosecutor who might have wanted to lower the sentence for a plea. For example, over 2.3 million Americans which is about one percent of the population are incarcerated, the cost is about twenty three thousand dollars per year to house and feed each prisoner (Muraskin, 2010). In addition, the criminal justice system is faced with a plethora of issues in terms of punishments imposed, deterrence and in the correctional institutions, issues that involve the care and treatment of offenders. In this paper I will discuss punishment, forecasted issues and trends and whether or not there is a danger to the community. The government has spent millions of dollars in attempting to find ways to deter crime. They have implemented various programs both educational and community –based. I believe that the concept is to reduce recidivism, deter crime and at the same time prepare offenders while incarcerated, to return to society and become productive members. In American prisons the two most widely used modes of treatment are education and work programs. The occurrence of these programs reflects the permanent belief that educational, work skills and good habits learned in acquiring such skills plays an integral role for offenders securing employment and becoming productive citizens. Although the results are not clear, the existing research generally suggests that the programs do have an impact in reducing post release recidivism, especially when targeted particularly at inmates who possess low skills and when part of a broader strategy –a multi-model approach which is behavior therapy in psychotherapy to rehabilitating offenders (Rehabilitation- Corrections in The United States, 2015). I think that there are some people in society who would argue that spending millions on criminals is a waste of taxpayers’ dollars because they are a lost cause. Randomized Controlled Trials in Evaluating Socially Complex Interventions: A Square Peg in a Round Hole? This lecture will discuss a number of challenges and problems in Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs), in particular in evaluating interventions aimed at (i) altering complex human behaviour, (ii) in marginalized and stigmatized populations; and, (iii) by socially complex interventions. The prayers said at every mass are rituals and members believe attending mass keeps them in good health, and good standing in life. So it is with other religious practices. As stated by Wintz, S., and Cooper, E. (2009), Islamic religious beliefs are based on five principles: “shahadatain (declaration of faith), Salat (prayer/worship), zakat (charitable contribution), sawn (fasting), hajj (pilgrimage to mecca)”, are all the five principles that require some degree of rituals to perform them. So many instruments, computers, hi-technology machines, the arrangement of the doctor’s consulting room, are all symbolic rituals associated to health and illness (p.227). For a patient who is certified ill; all these could symbolize healing, or may signify death, especially for the elderly.
