According to Robinson, when we compare America to countries
around the world, America does not have a high rate of crime,
but has one of the highest rates of lethal violence (2012).
Discuss three factors that are contributing to lethal violence.
Using the Problem Analysis Triangle (introduced in Week
Two), discuss three potential initiatives to counter gun violence.
What are examples of initiatives outside the criminal justice
system (i.e., law enforcement, courts, and corrections) that can
impact crime and criminal issues?
THIS ASSIGNMENT IS COMPLETED ABOVE, YOUR NEXT
ASSIGNMENT IS TO:
Respond to at least two of your classmates’ Review the initial
posts of your classmates. They discussed three factors that
contribute to lethal violence.
“Select one of these factors and discuss what the implications
and consequences of the factor are on social justice in society.”
“Does this factor enhance or detract from criminal justice?”
PROVIDE FEEDBACK ON TWO CLASSMATES POSTS. THE
LENGTH MUST BE 200 WORDS EACH POST. THERE ARE
TWO FEEDBACKS YOU MUST DO. MUST BE POSITIVE
FEEDBACK, PROPER GRAMMAR/SENTENCE STRUCTURE,
AND ANY OUTSIDE SOURCES YOU USE THAT RELATES
TO THE FEEDBACK FROM THE STUDENT MUST BE
PROPERLY CITED/SCHOLARY SOURCE.
FIRST DISCUSSION RESPONSE FROM MICHELLE G.
Lethal violence is any kind of violence that requires using other
ways of fighting other than just your fists. Three factors
contributing to lethal violence would be the easy distribution of
guns and access to them, media including television and movies,
and our peers. I say our peers because they can easily influence
others around them and if a child's parents have guns in the
home and use them for hunting and do not talk to their children
about gun safety and the proper way use of a gun that can be
lethal by having that gun in the home. The media reflects how
people act and think they need to be. For example movies where
there are gun fights and high speed chases makes younger
viewers feel as though that is not uncommon and happens all the
time if they are not talked to about what they saw. The media
puts things into peoples head that things are cool like having a
hand gun or women need to be skinny, tan, and have blonde hair
in order to look good. Buy being able to own a gun as long as
you are not a felon makes it easy for anyone over the age of 18
to walk into a store and buy a gun giving access to anyone in
that house the ability to touch that gun. Outside of the criminal
justice system initiatives that could be taken would for teachers
to talk to students about gun safety and the proper use of a gun,
parents educating their children and teaching them the correct
purposes of gun use, and talk about gun violence and how it
affects everyone around and why it is wrong. Also, the
community could be on the watch for people who may be selling
guns illegally out of a house to stop felons from getting a gun. I
also feel that schools could hosts assemblies that have people
who were gun shot victims speak and share their story as to how
they were an innocent victim of a gun crime and tell them about
what kind of punishment the shooter received.
SECOND DISCUSSION RESPONSE FROM AMANDA C.
According to Robinson, when we compare America to countries
around the world, America does not have a high rate of crime,
but has one of the highest rates of lethal violence. Three factors
in which I believe have contributed to lethal violence are
poverty, culture and youth. Poverty and crime are two
conditions that infect metropolitan areas. There is a direct
correlation between poverty and criminality. Criminal behavior
is, more often than not, subcultural behavior. As far as youth
goes, there are many factors to consider, the environment they
grew up in, mental health issues (behavior), no supervision/ no
attention from parents/ caretakers are a few to mention. Law
enforcement and correctional agencies share a common goal:
public safety through crime reduction. Each pursues this goal
from a different perspective: law enforcement seeks to maintain
order while correctional agencies seek to rehabilitate. By
joining forces, the two can leverage complementary resources
for mutual benefit. Despite this seemingly logical and natural
fit, the potentials of police-corrections partnerships are
struggling to find a place in the routine operations of either
police or corrections. Most partnerships have an ad hoc or
boutique nature about them and have not blended into the core
work of police or corrections. However, evidence is mounting
that police-corrections partnerships can and do produce
significant crime control and prevention outcomes (BJA).The
criminal justice system must adopt policies which allow crime
victims to play an integral role in the American criminal justice
process. Such policies must reflect an attitude that our justice
system does not exist despite its victims, but rather, it exists
because of its victims. Victims overwhelming desire to have an
active role in the prosecution and disposition of a criminal case
does not stem from a need to retaliate, but rather to promote fair
and sensitive treatment of victims, to have their role in the
justice process acknowledged, and to alert the justice process to
the emotional, physical and financial impact of crime on its
victims and our nation as a whole. Legislation shall be enacted
or amended at the Federal, state and local levels to provide
crime victims with the right to submit victim impact statements
by written, oral, video, audio or other electronic means at the
time of sentencing and parole authorities. Legislation shall be
enacted that delegates specific authority, roles and
responsibilities at the Federal, state and local levels for the
distribution, collection and dissemination of victim impact
statements. This legislation shall also provide specific mandates
for accountability and outline specific penalties for
noncompliance with the legislation (VC archive). To prevent gun
crime programs must address both demand for and supply of
guns. I think every potential buyer needs to attain a gun safety
course in which they will teach you how to properly use and
handle as well as safely store it within your belongings. There
should be a required background check of all people living
within the house hold where the gun will be stored as well as
the buyer of the gun. The buyer of the gun shall need a proper
license to carry and use the gun.

MUST BE POSITIVE FEEDBACK, PROPER GRAMMAR/SENTENCE STRUCTURE, AND ANY OUTSIDE SOURCES YOU USE THAT RELATES TO THE FEEDBACK FROM THE STUDENT MUST BE PROPERLY CITED/SCHOLARY SOURCE. FIRST DISCUSSION RESPONSE FROM MICHELLE G. Lethal violence is any kind of violence that requires using other ways of fighting other than just your fists. Three factors contributing to lethal violence would be the easy distribution of guns and access to them, media including television and movies, and our peers. I say our peers because they can easily influence others around them and if a child's parents have guns in the home and use them for hunting and do not talk to their children about gun safety and the proper way use of a gun that can be lethal by having that gun in the home. The media reflects how
  • 2. people act and think they need to be. For example movies where there are gun fights and high speed chases makes younger viewers feel as though that is not uncommon and happens all the time if they are not talked to about what they saw. The media puts things into peoples head that things are cool like having a hand gun or women need to be skinny, tan, and have blonde hair in order to look good. Buy being able to own a gun as long as you are not a felon makes it easy for anyone over the age of 18 to walk into a store and buy a gun giving access to anyone in that house the ability to touch that gun. Outside of the criminal justice system initiatives that could be taken would for teachers to talk to students about gun safety and the proper use of a gun, parents educating their children and teaching them the correct purposes of gun use, and talk about gun violence and how it affects everyone around and why it is wrong. Also, the community could be on the watch for people who may be selling guns illegally out of a house to stop felons from getting a gun. I also feel that schools could hosts assemblies that have people who were gun shot victims speak and share their story as to how they were an innocent victim of a gun crime and tell them about what kind of punishment the shooter received. SECOND DISCUSSION RESPONSE FROM AMANDA C. According to Robinson, when we compare America to countries around the world, America does not have a high rate of crime, but has one of the highest rates of lethal violence. Three factors in which I believe have contributed to lethal violence are poverty, culture and youth. Poverty and crime are two conditions that infect metropolitan areas. There is a direct correlation between poverty and criminality. Criminal behavior is, more often than not, subcultural behavior. As far as youth goes, there are many factors to consider, the environment they grew up in, mental health issues (behavior), no supervision/ no attention from parents/ caretakers are a few to mention. Law enforcement and correctional agencies share a common goal: public safety through crime reduction. Each pursues this goal from a different perspective: law enforcement seeks to maintain
  • 3. order while correctional agencies seek to rehabilitate. By joining forces, the two can leverage complementary resources for mutual benefit. Despite this seemingly logical and natural fit, the potentials of police-corrections partnerships are struggling to find a place in the routine operations of either police or corrections. Most partnerships have an ad hoc or boutique nature about them and have not blended into the core work of police or corrections. However, evidence is mounting that police-corrections partnerships can and do produce significant crime control and prevention outcomes (BJA).The criminal justice system must adopt policies which allow crime victims to play an integral role in the American criminal justice process. Such policies must reflect an attitude that our justice system does not exist despite its victims, but rather, it exists because of its victims. Victims overwhelming desire to have an active role in the prosecution and disposition of a criminal case does not stem from a need to retaliate, but rather to promote fair and sensitive treatment of victims, to have their role in the justice process acknowledged, and to alert the justice process to the emotional, physical and financial impact of crime on its victims and our nation as a whole. Legislation shall be enacted or amended at the Federal, state and local levels to provide crime victims with the right to submit victim impact statements by written, oral, video, audio or other electronic means at the time of sentencing and parole authorities. Legislation shall be enacted that delegates specific authority, roles and responsibilities at the Federal, state and local levels for the distribution, collection and dissemination of victim impact statements. This legislation shall also provide specific mandates for accountability and outline specific penalties for noncompliance with the legislation (VC archive). To prevent gun crime programs must address both demand for and supply of guns. I think every potential buyer needs to attain a gun safety course in which they will teach you how to properly use and handle as well as safely store it within your belongings. There should be a required background check of all people living
