Nissan has adopted many different process practices to assist their daily manufacturing functions.
Just–in–time (JIT), Toyota Production System (TPS), and Lean are three theory concepts the firm
has implemented to ensure the company stays on track in order to meet their goals.
Just–in–time inventory management is a cost–cutting inventory management strategy that results to
stock outs. It originally referred to the production of goods to meet customer demand exactly, in
time, quality and quantity, whether the `customer' is the final purchaser of the product or another
process further along the production line. Nissan benefited from this operation strategy, the method
ensured there wouldn't be an excess amount of inventory isn't sitting in the warehouse. When
properly adapted JIT manufacturing has the capacity to strengthen Nissan's competitiveness in the
marketplace substantially by reducing wastes and improving product quality and efficiency of
production. Despite the preceding advantages, there are a number of disadvantages associated with
just–in–time inventory which could significantly impact the business. A supplier that does not
deliver goods to the company exactly on time and in the correct amounts could seriously impact the
production process. JIT means that you become extremely reliant on the consistency of your supply
chain
Toyota Production System (TPS) on the other hand shifts their focus primarily towards employee
empowerment engaging team members to optimize quality by constantly improving processes and
eliminating unnecessary waste in all resources. Its main focus is to provide best quality, lowest cost,
and shortest lead time through the elimination of waste. A drawback to this system is the high cost
and the level of complexity to implement the method.
The three practices work in conjunction with one another in order to optimize improvement in all
products and services. The development of TPS was a major precursor of Lean manufacturing. Lean
like TPS and JIT focuses on continuous improvement. The main difference is lean is customer
focused, if it does not add value to the customer it is not added (Heizer & Render, 2014). By

Square Enix Co., Ltd has been a striving company in the gaming industry especially in the financial
year of 2014/15 bringing home a net income of 9.8 trillion yens (US$80 million) (Watanabe, 2015),
one of the best results since 2008. However, according to CSRHub (2015), Square Enix has been
rated in the bottom 2 percentile for Corporate Social Responsibility Rankings, fairing lower than
competitors. This has raised an alarm amongst the stakeholders and executives as environmental and
sustainability issues were left out in the 2015 annual report (SQUARE ENIX HOLDINGS CO.,

Hence in this report, an in depth look towards environmental sustainability would be made,
examples of what competitors have done to address this issue and how assumed company Square

the foundation of the findings.
The author has since suggested Suare Enix to adapt the ISO 14000 certification and establish the
Customer Social Responsibility assurance with the transparency report launched, tracking carbon
footprint and emission among other key performance. Project managers are also advised to take
steps in adapting several sustainability in different process of the project life cycle in Chapter 4:
